Chris Streveler Suddenly Retires After Jets Stint

Former Jets QB Chris Streveler retires at 31, closing the chapter on a diverse football career spanning the NFL and CFL.

The New York Jets have seen a couple of their former players make the surprising decision to retire this offseason. Among them is Bryce Huff, who wrapped up his career with the San Francisco 49ers in 2025. At just 27, Huff's decision caught many off guard.

But Huff isn't the only ex-Jet stepping away from the gridiron. Former Jets quarterback Chris Streveler, who had a brief yet memorable stint with the team, has also announced his retirement from professional football.

Streveler, 31, is perhaps best remembered for his appearance with the Jets in 2022. During his lone start, he completed 10 of 15 passes, achieving a 66.7% completion rate for 90 yards. While he didn't throw any touchdowns or interceptions, he did manage to secure five first downs through the air.

On the ground, Streveler showed some mobility, rushing nine times for 54 yards and picking up an additional first down. However, he did fumble once in that game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

His NFL journey began with the Arizona Cardinals, where he played in 2020 and 2021 before joining the Jets in 2022. Despite a promising start, he was waived in mid-August of that year.

Streveler then returned to the Canadian Football League, where he had previously played with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2018 and 2019. In his second stint with Winnipeg during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, he played 31 games, completing 124 of 198 passes for 1,446 yards, seven touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. His 2025 season saw him throw for 1,103 yards, six touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

As he steps away from football, Streveler leaves behind a decade-long career that took him from college fields at Minnesota and South Dakota to both the NFL and CFL. His journey through the ranks of professional football showcases the unpredictable and challenging paths athletes often navigate.
