Chiefs Trade Deadline Buzz Keeps Coming Back To One Receiver

Could the frustrated Jets receiver find a new home with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City or with another NFL powerhouse?

Garrett Wilson’s frustration with the Jets has been out in the open, and now Russell Wilson has put a pair of heavyweight suitors on the table.

The former NFL quarterback, now a CBS Sports studio analyst, said Garrett Wilson should be eyeing a move to the Kansas City Chiefs or San Francisco 49ers before the Nov. 10 trade deadline. His comments came as the Jets wideout continues to navigate a season that has grown increasingly tense around his role in the offense.

New York dropped to 2-5 on Sunday after a 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins, a team that came into the game without a win. Garrett Wilson was not targeted in the first half and ended up with two catches for 26 yards on three targets. Cameras also caught him shouting on the sideline in the fourth quarter as the Jets trailed.

He signed a four-year, $130 million extension with the Jets in July 2025 and is under contract through the 2030 season. The Jets have not signaled any interest in moving him, but that did not stop Russell Wilson from laying out where he thinks the receiver would fit best.

“If I’m Garrett Wilson, I’m going to the Kansas City Chiefs,” Russell Wilson said in a clip shared by NFL on CBS. “As you saw on Sunday Night Football, they were struggling to catch the football.

You don’t see Patrick Mahomes getting frustrated too often. They need a big receiver, and Garrett Wilson is that guy.”

That Chiefs reference tied into a rough night for Kansas City, which managed only three points in a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football and never reached the red zone.

Russell Wilson also pointed Garrett Wilson toward another contender.

“The 49ers have a chance, and if I’m Garrett Wilson, I’m checking out the 49ers,” he continued. “Kyle Shanahan should make the call. Mike Evans can make plays down in the red zone, but to find a player who can run every route for you, that’s Garrett Wilson.”

Jets Trade Deadline Could Force Tough Calls Across This Roster

With the Nov. 10 trade deadline approaching, the Jets are facing the kind of roster decisions that can quietly reshape a season before the calendar even flips to winter. Veterans on expiring contracts are already in the conversation, and the bigger issue is how a few players fit into a changing depth chart as the team evaluates both present production and future flexibility.

Among the names being discussed are Harrison Phillips, Nahshon Wright, Andre Cisco, Brandon Stephens, Jamien Sherwood and Will McDonald IV, a group that reflects how wide the possibilities are for New York. Some are veterans who could appeal to other teams, while others have seen their standing shift for different reasons, leaving the Jets to weigh whether holding onto them makes more sense than collecting value now. Demario Davis Is Putting The Jets In A Tough Spot

Demario Davis has long been the kind of player the Jets could lean on for steadiness in the middle of the defense, but this season has brought a different conversation. The veteran linebackers leadership and experience still matter in the room, yet his physical impact has slipped enough to be felt on Sundays, and it has shown up in a defense that has not been as consistent as the team needs.

Jamien Sherwood has taken a step forward in coverage and tackling, which should have given New York a better foundation at linebacker. Instead, the pairing has not reliably settled the unit the way the Jets hoped, leaving the defense without the kind of stability that usually comes from having an established veteran alongside a rising partner. Aaron Glenn Has A Jets Problem Fans Can't Ignore

The Jets loss to the Dolphins did more than add another blemish to a frustrating season in the AFC East. It also put a sharper spotlight on Aaron Glenn, whose defense has struggled to deliver against division opponents and whose role as a steadying presence has become harder to sell after another defeat in Miami.

Glenn is still in place, but the optics around him have gotten tougher to ignore. His postgame message was meant to take responsibility, yet it only seemed to deepen the sense that the Jets are still looking for the right tone, the right answers and maybe even the right direction from one of their key voices.
