When it comes to being the punchline in NFL circles, few teams have endured as much ribbing as the New York Jets. It's a tough spot, no doubt, with the Jets posting a league-worst 28-73 record since 2020. Their last winning season was back in 2015, and they haven't seen playoff action since 2010-one of the longest droughts in North American sports.
Jets fans know this story all too well. They don't need reminders about their team's struggles. Yet, sometimes, the jokes keep coming from rival fans, analysts, and even players.
Case in point: Cameron Jordan of the New Orleans Saints. When asked about the Saints' playoff prospects for 2026, especially with the rise of quarterback Tyler Shough and their strong finish last season, Jordan couldn't resist a dig at the Jets.
"I hope so. Isn't that the goal?
Ain't nobody going the whole offseason, thinking like, man, I hope we just win three games. I'll leave that to the Jets," Jordan quipped.
Ouch. That’s a bit of a low blow, especially since the Jets haven't crossed paths with the Saints in any particularly heated rivalry. Jordan seemed to take a gratuitous shot at a team already down on its luck.
But if we're keeping score, the Saints haven't been playoff regulars lately either. Their last postseason appearance was in 2020, back when Drew Brees and Sean Payton were leading the charge. Since then, New Orleans has posted a 49-54 record-not exactly a powerhouse performance.
So, while the Jets' record might be the league's worst since 2020, the Saints aren't exactly setting the world on fire. Perhaps Jordan might want to focus on ensuring his team keeps trending upward.
One day, the Jets will shake off their underdog status. Until then, their loyal fans will just have to hang tough and wait for their moment.
