Breece Hall didn’t need long to make his feelings on Minkah Fitzpatrick clear. The Jets running back took one look at the veteran safety and treated him like the older relative in the room, joking on social media, “I call him unc every day. I was in middle school like ‘damn I wonder what it’s like to play against Minkah Fitzpatrick,'”
That line came as Hall quoted a clip of Fitzpatrick speaking at a press conference, and the age gap between the two players is hard to miss. Hall is 25 and heading into his fifth NFL season, while Fitzpatrick is entering his ninth. For Hall, the whole thing clearly still feels a little unreal.
In the video Hall shared, Fitzpatrick talked about the younger players around him and how some of them had been watching his highlight tape when they were in elementary school. He also said he appreciates the respect they show him.
“It's awesome. A lot of those dudes look up to me, and they really admired my game back in the day.
They still do now. They pay a lot of respects to me, and I really appreciate the way they show love,” the Jets safety said in the clip Hall shared.
New York brought Fitzpatrick in during an offseason trade in March, hoping he could help upgrade the secondary. The Jets are also looking for a jolt after a defense that did not record a single interception in 2025. Their 2026 season starts September 13 against Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans.

Two days of joint practice with the Buccaneers gave the Jets a clearer picture of where several camp battles stand, and a few names are starting to separate themselves from the pack. Rookie edge rusher David Bailey drew plenty of attention for the right reasons, while tight end Mason Taylor kept building on the larger role he has taken because of another players injury, showing the kind of steady progress teams like to see in August.
The more telling development may be in the secondary, where the safety competition has become harder to sort through.
