Breece Hall Could Give Jets Needed Spark Against Miami

With Breece Hall's potential return against the Dolphins, the Jets hope to ignite their struggling offense amidst growing calls for change.

Breece Hall may be on the verge of getting back on the field for the Jets.

The New York running back has been out since Week 3 against the Detroit Lions because of a quad injury, but he gave fans a small clue about his status on social media. Hall posted a photo on his Instagram story with the caption “soon.”

Before the injury, Hall had already put together a productive three-game stretch. He ran for 163 yards and a touchdown while adding 102 receiving yards. New York opened the season with a win over the Tennessee Titans, then dropped games to the Green Bay Packers and Lions with Hall in the lineup.

Hall entered the year with real expectations after signing a three-year, $45.75 million extension in May. He came into the season with 18 rushing touchdowns and nine receiving touchdowns for the Jets.

The offense around him has been a problem. New York is averaging 18.7 points per game, which ranks 27th in the NFL. The Jets have also scored only four touchdowns in their past three games, and the numbers get uglier near the goal line and in key situations: they rank 27th in points per game, 32nd in red zone efficiency and 25th in third-down efficiency.

One especially brutal stretch has come in the final two minutes of the first half. The Jets are the only team that has not scored in that window, and they’ve been outscored 23-0 overall. Since last season, that margin is 100-6, the worst in the league by far.

Head coach Aaron Glenn, meanwhile, is standing by offensive coordinator Frank Reich despite criticism from some fans.

"I think he's done a good job, I really do," Glenn said. "Obviously, there are a number of things that we can improve on ... from short-yardage and the two-minute. But that also goes on me also when it comes to the defensive side, me and [Brian] Duker on some things that we have to get better at, too."

Quarterback Geno Smith has put up 1,336 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns and one interception this season while completing 68.9% of his throws. Across his NFL career, Smith entered the season with 22,168 passing yards, 124 passing touchdowns and 89 interceptions. Heading into the Jets’ Week 7 matchup against the Dolphins, his record as a starter stands at 44-60-0, and his career totals now read 23,504 passing yards, 131 touchdowns and 90 interceptions.

Smith’s best seasons came in Seattle in 2022 and 2023, when he made the Pro Bowl both years and won AP Comeback Player of the Year in 2022.

Still, the article’s outlook for the Jets at quarterback is clear: New York is projected to miss the playoffs again, and the call here is for Glenn to turn to rookie Cade Klubnik.

Klubnik went 21-of-34 for 190 passing yards in the preseason, with no touchdowns and one interception. He entered the 2025 college football season projected as a top pick in the 2026 draft, but a difficult year at Clemson hurt his stock. The Jets took him with the 110th overall pick in the 2026 draft, and he remains confident in what he can do.

In his final college season, Klubnik threw for 2,943 yards and 16 touchdowns. Over his Clemson career, he finished with 10,123 passing yards and 73 touchdowns.

The criticism of Glenn doesn’t stop there. The argument for benching Smith is paired with a push for the Jets’ front office to move on from Glenn as well, with concerns about his clock management. New York is 5-18 in the Glenn era and still has not won an AFC East game.

Defensively, Glenn has been calling plays this season. The Jets have one interception after finishing last season without any, and they are allowing 20.3 points per game, which ranks seventh in the NFL.

Even with Hall’s possible return, the bigger picture for the Jets remains bleak. The expectation is another lost season and, eventually, a premium draft pick in 2027. The recommendation from this report: use it on a quarterback.

Adonai Mitchell's Return Could Change How Jets Fans See This Offense

Adonai Mitchell is set to give the Jets a welcome boost in Week 7, with Aaron Glenn saying the receiver is back in the mix for Sundays game against the Dolphins. Mitchell has been out for four games because of a finger injury, and his return adds another layer to a passing game that could use more playmakers on the field at once.

The timing is useful, too, with Miami bringing one of the leagues weakest pass defenses into the matchup. If Mitchell, Garrett Wilson and Omar Cooper Jr. can all be on the field together, the Jets have a chance to make the most of a favorable spot and show a little more of what this offense can look like when it has its full cast available. Jets Fans Need To Brace For A Very Different 2027 QB Path

The 2027 quarterback picture is already getting murkier for a Jets team that was hoping the draft class might offer a cleaner path to a franchise answer. Arch Manning entered the discussion as the marquee name, with his football family background and top-pick buzz making him the kind of prospect that can reshape an offseason conversation before he even arrives. But his recent struggles have complicated both his own outlook and Texas playoff push, and the early read around the class is that the Jets may have to think beyond the most obvious headline name.

Notre Dames CJ Carr has started to come up as a realistic alternative in that conversation, and it says plenty about how unsettled the board remains. Draft analysts are already sorting through a class where the top quarterback choices may not line up the way people expected, and for the Jets, that means the route to their next starter could look very different by the time they are actually on the clock. Aaron Glenn Knows The Jets Cant Afford More Discipline Issues

The Jets have already spent enough time trying to clean up their own mistakes, and Aaron Glenn knows the issue goes beyond the box score. New York has been one of the leagues more penalized teams this season, sitting fifth in total flags and third in penalty yards, which makes every extra lapse feel that much more costly for a team trying to build discipline early under a new head coach.

Glenn addressed the matter at a press conference and did not confirm or deny the reported fine, while also offering support for the NFLs officials. Still, the situation lingers because it adds another layer to a season in which the Jets have been fighting to keep penalties from becoming part of their identity, and the leagues review of a heated moment from Week 5 only puts more attention on that problem.
