Alex Rodriguez thinks the Yankees are staring at the kind of opportunity they can’t afford to waste.
On WFAN Sports Radio, the former Yankees star urged Brian Cashman and the organization to go all-in at the MLB trade deadline, arguing that the club has to make the most of Aaron Judge’s prime.
"That window's closing," Rodriguez said. "And it puts tremendous pressure on Brian Cashman, the ownership, the fanbase. And what an absolute tragedy it would be to have one of the greatest players of our generation only go to one World Series and not win."
He kept pushing the same point a moment later.
"If you're the Yankees, it's a very simple formula. This is the weakest the American League has been in our lifetime.
You have a scenario where you could play the White Sox and the Rays and go to the World Series. So if you're management, if you have an opportunity to go all-in, you gotta put all your chips in now."
Rodriguez’s message was clear: this isn’t the time for half-measures. He didn’t name one specific move Cashman should make, but he made it obvious he wants the Yankees to swing big at the deadline.
That could mean chasing a major bullpen arm like Mason Miller from the San Diego Padres, checking on Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers, or making a move behind the plate for Hunter Goodman.
The Yankees are in second place in the American League East, and Rodriguez sees a path that makes a bold push worthwhile. With the AL looking wide open, he believes the club should be willing to deal from its prospect depth - including Spencer Jones, Jasson Dominguez, Carlos Lagrange, George Lombard Jr., and other top names - to capitalize on the 2026 season.
Judge is hurt and won’t be back for a little while, but Rodriguez still sees a chance for New York to stay in the race. If the Yankees get help at the deadline, they could hang around the Rays at the top of the division and make a push in mid-to-late August for the AL East title and a first-round bye.
The clock is ticking toward the August 3 trade deadline, and Rodriguez wants the Yankees to treat this like a season that demands urgency. In his view, this is the moment to go all-in.
