Islanders Fans Just Sent A Clear Message About The Next Jersey

Despite hopes for a bold orange redesign, Islanders fans favor classic blue in the ongoing third jersey contest.

The New York Islanders’ fan vote on a new third jersey has already drawn a pretty clear line: orange is out.

After Round One closed at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, both orange concepts were eliminated from the competition, along with the navy design that featured “Isles” across the chest. That leaves three finalists in the 2027-28 third jersey fan vote: the blue lighthouse jersey, the blue fisherman jersey and the blue-and-cream look with “Islanders” across the front.

Cal Clutterbuck helped announce the results, and for anyone tracking the vote all week, the outcome wasn’t much of a shock.

Fans hoping for a predominantly orange alternate to show up at UBS Arena during the 2027-28 season will need to keep waiting. The Islanders did give supporters plenty of room to play with colors and styles, but the vote has steadily pointed back toward designs tied to the franchise’s past.

The lighthouse concept, which was once used as a shoulder patch during the late-1990s wave-jersey era, has caught on as the contest has moved along. The fisherman logo, still one of the more debated images in Islanders history, has also found real support, especially from younger fans who never saw it introduced. And the blue-and-cream “Islanders” jersey offers a more classic option while staying in that familiar palette.

Orange does have a place in Islanders history, and team president of business operations Kelly Cheeseman had already said he would love to see an orange jersey win. But the fan base went a different direction.

The message from Round One is hard to miss: when Islanders fans get the final say, blue still seems to be the look they want.
