Leave it to the New York Islanders to turn a jersey tease into a puzzle. The clue that cracked it open was a name fans already know well: Ziggy Palffy.
The team’s Hometown Remix image arrived with a line of letters that looked like random noise at first glance:
AOZP BFPT EMJ RXDP GWMJGSY NL
But there was a message buried inside it, and the key was PALFFY. Using that name as the cipher key turns the jumble into:
“LOOK WHAT THE TIDE BROUGHT IN.”
That solution came courtesy of fan @sportsenjoyer22, who posted a step-by-step explanation on X showing how to solve it with a Vigenère cipher. The setup sounds more complicated than it is. The basic trick is to repeat the keyword under the coded text, then use the matching letters to decode each chunk one by one.
For the first word, AOZP, the matching key letters are PALF. Work through the chart letter by letter, and the word comes out as LOOK. Keep going and the rest of the sentence follows.
The phrasing matters here. Palffy was the Islanders’ top player during the Fisherman Era, and the line about the tide points in the same direction.
It doesn’t tell you the full jersey design - not the crest, not the colors, not the striping - but it does make the theme feel pretty clear. The Islanders have nudged fans toward a Fisherman-inspired answer, and they did it with a code that was hiding in plain sight.

Sabres Fans Should Watch This Defense Market Twist Closely
Scott Mayfields name has quietly become one to monitor as the defense market starts to stir, and the Islanders are in a familiar spot of having a veteran with real contractual heft and a role that has shrunk lately. He still has three years left on his deal and, for now, a full no-movement clause, but the fact that he has spent most of the recent stretch as a healthy scratch has only added to the sense that change could be coming for a player who once looked like a stable part of the blue line.
Across the league, teams are beginning to show interest in adding help on defense, which makes Mayfield part of a wider ripple effect rather than just an Islanders-only storyline. Los Angeles is also worth keeping on the radar here because Drew Doughty has already signaled he is open to a team-friendly return while acknowledging the Kings could choose another path, and when a market starts to bend in one place, it can create movement in another before anyone has fully mapped out the dominoes. Barzals Knee Trouble Just Became A Bigger Islanders Concern
Mathew Barzals return to the Islanders after a long recovery had already been encouraging, but the bigger picture around his left knee remains unsettled. After missing significant time and working his way back into NHL action, the center has still been dealing with recurring inflammation despite being medically cleared, a reminder that a clean bill of health does not always mean the problem is fully behind a player.
The concern is now less about the initial injury and more about what keeps showing up afterward. Barzals ongoing issues have even affected his participation in other hockey events, and rehabilitation specialist Darren McConaghy has pointed to the possibility that there may be underlying physical limitations conventional exams are not fully catching. For the Islanders, that leaves a familiar question hanging over one of their most important players: how reliable is the knee going forward? [Read more 🡒]
Kings Face An Islanders Decision That Could Test Their Momentum
The Islanders close out a two-game homestand at UBS Arena against the Kings with a familiar-looking lineup and a notable turn in goal. Semyon Varlamov gets the start, giving New York a chance to lean on a veteran netminder in a spot that has a little extra weight attached to it after a long wait for this kind of assignment in front of the home crowd.
New York is otherwise keeping things mostly intact from its previous game, with Kyle MacLean, Mitchell Chaffee and Casey Cizikas together on the fourth line. On defense, Matthew Kessel stays in the mix, adding another small wrinkle to a blue line that has been adjusted just enough to make the decision tree interesting as the Islanders try to finish the homestand on a steady note.
