Brayden Schenn Embraces Islanders, Calls Long Island His New Home

Brayden Schenn embraces his new chapter with the New York Islanders, finding a sense of home and eager to make a significant impact on the ice.

Brayden Schenn is settling into his new home on Long Island, and it's clear he's embracing the change with open arms. Fresh off a trade to the New York Islanders, Schenn is eager to connect with the team's passionate fanbase and contribute on the ice.

After joining the Islanders just before the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline, Schenn has already suited up for two games, including an emotional return to St. Louis. Now, he's getting his first taste of practice in East Meadow.

Reflecting on his time with talented players in St. Louis, Schenn is optimistic about building chemistry with his new linemates, particularly Mathew Barzal.

"Playing with skilled guys like Robert Thomas taught me to get open and find them," Schenn shared. "I hope Barzy and I can click.

My goal is to create space, get him the puck, and let him shine."

The reality of the trade hit home as Schenn settled into New York. "Staying in St.

Louis while playing for the Islanders was strange," he admitted. "But now that I'm here, it feels like home.

It's a process, but I'm getting more comfortable each day."

The excitement of playing in front of the Islanders' fervent fans isn't lost on him. "It's tough playing on Long Island as an opponent," Schenn noted.

"The team plays the right way, and the fans are always loud and supportive. I'm thrilled to be part of that energy now."

The decision to waive his no-trade clause wasn't just about hockey; it was a family choice. "Leaving St.

Louis after nearly a decade was tough, especially with three kids," Schenn explained. "The hockey side is easy-teams are welcoming.

But uprooting my family was the challenging part."

A quick meeting with Islanders GM Mathieu Darche and coach Patrick Roy facilitated the trade. "I had about 15 minutes to decide before they moved on," Schenn recounted. "It was a whirlwind."

One highlight of his transition was meeting Matthew Schaefer, the Islanders' top draft pick. "He's an incredible guy," Schenn praised. "His skill is obvious, but his character off the ice is what stands out."

Adjusting to life with young children adds another layer to Schenn's move. "I'm house hunting now," he said.

"With a four-year-old, a two-and-a-half-year-old, and a newborn, it's hectic. My priority is helping my wife with the baby and getting settled."

In his first two games with the Islanders, Schenn's impact is already felt. He's recorded an assist, taken six shots, delivered three hits, blocked a shot, and won 54.2% of his faceoffs, all while averaging over 17 minutes on the ice per game.

As Schenn navigates this new chapter, it's clear he's ready to make his mark on Long Island, both on and off the ice.
