The Las Vegas Raiders are deep in the hunt for their next head coach, and Davis Webb is very much in the mix. The 30-year-old rising star-currently the Denver Broncos’ passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach-has drawn serious attention across the league this offseason, and the Raiders may be his most intriguing opportunity yet.
Webb is one of four candidates the Raiders brought in for a second interview, and with two of those candidates now off the board after accepting other jobs, the field is narrowing fast. That puts Webb squarely in the spotlight as Las Vegas weighs its next move.
But the Raiders aren’t the only ones trying to lock down Webb’s services. His current team, the Broncos, just fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, creating a vacancy that Webb is now a top candidate to fill. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Denver is expected to make a strong push to keep Webb in-house-potentially by offering him the OC job.
There’s a catch, though. NFL hiring rules require a formal interview process, so the Broncos can’t just hand Webb the job outright.
What they can do is incentivize him to stay-financially, structurally, or otherwise-and position him as the likely successor. The fact that Webb is currently interviewing with a division rival for a head coaching position adds another layer to the drama.
As Rapoport pointed out, “These things are all related.”
And Denver isn’t alone in the OC chase. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, and Baltimore Ravens have all requested interviews with Webb for their offensive coordinator openings. That’s three playoff-caliber teams, each with a chance to hand Webb the keys to their offense.
Here’s where it gets interesting: while the Broncos might offer Webb the OC title, they can’t offer him play-calling duties. That’s firmly in Sean Payton’s hands. Unless Payton makes an unexpected move to delegate that responsibility, Webb’s ceiling in Denver may be capped.
That’s not the case in Philly, New York, or Baltimore. All three franchises could give Webb control of the offense, including play-calling-a major draw for any up-and-coming coach looking to prove himself on a bigger stage.
But the Raiders? They’ve got the biggest card to play.
Las Vegas can offer Webb a head coaching job and the chance to run the offense his way. That level of control is rare, especially for someone as young as Webb, and it could be the deciding factor if the Raiders are serious about making him their guy.
Even if Webb doesn’t land the top job in Vegas, there’s still a path forward. The Raiders could pivot and offer him their offensive coordinator role-one that presumably comes with play-calling responsibilities. That still puts them in a strong position compared to other suitors.
Bottom line: Davis Webb is one of the hottest names on the coaching circuit this offseason, and the Raiders may have the most compelling offer on the table. Whether it’s as head coach or offensive coordinator, Las Vegas has the chance to land a young, innovative mind who’s quickly climbing the NFL coaching ranks. The question now is whether they can close the deal before someone else does.
