NY Giants Host Veteran Center Amid Roster Shake-Up

Giants eye seasoned lineman Ryan Bates as a potential solution to bolster their interior line following Schlottman's departure.

The New York Giants are on the hunt for a seasoned interior offensive lineman, especially after losing Austin Schlottman to the Tennessee Titans in free agency. Enter Ryan Bates, who recently visited the Giants as they explore their options.

Bates, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 306 pounds, brings seven years of NFL experience to the table. His journey includes 92 regular-season games and 21 starts, primarily with the Buffalo Bills and a stint with the Chicago Bears.

Bates began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Bills back in 2019 when Giants GM Joe Schoen was the assistant GM there. This connection could be pivotal as the Giants assess his potential fit.

Bates is versatile, having played every position on the offensive line except tackle, which he hasn't manned since early in his career. His experience includes 1,089 snaps at right guard, 341 at left guard, and 203 at center. Despite not playing an offensive snap for the Bears last season, he was active for 16 games, contributing 82 snaps on special teams.

The Giants are clearly weighing their options, and Bates' familiarity with Schoen might just give him an edge in this search for a reliable lineman.
