A frightening moment hit the New York Jets’ joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday, when cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers had to leave in an ambulance after practice was paused for several minutes.
Those on hand said Stiggers was carted off the field and into the ambulance with an IV. Jets X-Factor’s Robby Sabo identified the player as Stiggers, and head coach Aaron Glenn later told the media that Stiggers “passed out” on the sideline before being taken to a local hospital.
Glenn said Stiggers was conscious and talking.
The scare comes at a time when Stiggers is trying to keep his place on the roster for a third straight season. The Jets took him in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft, and while he has not locked down a major defensive role, he has become an important piece on special teams as a gunner.
That work showed up in 2025, when Stiggers finished fourth on the team with 287 special teams snaps and earned a 70.4 special teams grade from Pro Football Focus. He also posted seven special teams tackles and recovered a muffed punt.
His defensive usage has stayed limited. Stiggers has played 297 defensive snaps across 29 career games, and the path to more work on that side looks crowded again. Brandon Stephens, Azareye’h Thomas, D’Angelo Ponds, Nahshon Wright, and Jarvis Brownlee Jr. are all in the mix for starting jobs in the Jets’ cornerback room.
For now, his roster case has been built on special teams. If he’s healthy, that’s still the clearest route for him to stick.
