Week 5 brought the kind of Sunday that gets fans talking about the refs as much as the football.
Two different games turned into officiating flashpoints, with viewers on social media calling for both crews to be “investigated” as the afternoon wore on. The complaints centered on the Commanders’ NFC East matchup with the Giants and the Jets’ game against the Browns, where the calls kept piling up and so did the frustration.
In Washington’s game, Commanders fans were especially angry as their team stayed in front. The biggest flashpoint came on a ruling that stood as a touchdown after a long review.
“The refs hate the Commanders for real,” one fan wrote. “Investigate these refs,” one fan added.
“Letting the giants and commanders fight for the ball in the pile for two minutes, then get into another fight outside the pile and then rule it’s a TD before you break up the guys fighting in the pile is peak NFL refs,” one fan added.
There was also a controversial pass interference penalty earlier in that game, which only added to the chatter.
The Jets-Browns game drew its own wave of complaints, and Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was furious as well. Fans kept pushing the same theme online as the officiating continued to frustrate them.
“PLEASE INVESTIGATE YOUR CORRUPT REFS,” one fan urged. “PLEASE INVESTIGATE THESE REFS TOO!”
one fan added. “At this point, it’s too egregious to be merely a coincidence.
Investigate these refs!” one fan added.
It all made for another Sunday where the officiating became a major storyline, with two crews under heavy fire and fans more than ready to vent.

Giants Get A Rival Result Washington Should Have Regretted Even More
Washingtons overtime visit to the Meadowlands produced a result that lingered far longer than a routine division tie. The Commanders and Giants finished 27-27 after a final sequence that never got them to a potential game-winning field goal, turning what should have been a chance to leave with a needed victory into a messy ending that left both sides sorting through what went wrong.
Dan Quinn did not hide his frustration after slamming his headset and taking responsibility for the breakdown, and Jayden Daniels also owned his part in the sequence. For Washington, the tie felt costly in the moment and even more so in the standings, where a 1-3-1 start still leaves the Commanders at the bottom of the division and searching for a cleaner finish next time. Giants Face Another Prove-It Spot As Doubts Keep Following Them
The Giants keep finding themselves in spots where the record says one thing and the betting line says another. At 3-1-1 and sitting atop the NFC East, they still enter Week 6 as small home underdogs against the Saints, a reflection of how much skepticism lingers around a team that has had to grind through uneven stretches on both sides of the ball.
New Orleans comes in at 1-4 after a recent loss, so this is hardly a matchup that should overwhelm New York on paper. Still, the Giants have not exactly made things easy on themselves with turnovers and defensive lapses, which is why this feels like another one of those prove-it moments where a win would say more than the standings do. Giants Need A Better Plan For Jameis Winston Early
The Giants found some rhythm late in their recent game by leaning into a no-huddle approach and opening up the passing game, a shift John Harbaugh pointed to as a major reason the offense finally came alive after a slow start. Jameis Winston was more productive once the tempo picked up, and the turnaround helped New York put 24 points on the board in the second half after an uneven opening stretch.
Now the challenge is whether that version of the offense can show up earlier, not just after halftime adjustments have already been made. Harbaugh said faster pace and cleaner execution could help the Giants avoid another sluggish start, and the upcoming matchup with the New Orleans Saints will be a useful test of whether this approach can work from the opening drive instead of serving as a recovery plan.
