The Giants are suddenly thin off the edge after Brian Burns tore his right ACL in a 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans, and Jason Pierre-Paul has already floated his name back into the conversation. On X/Twitter, Pierre-Paul posted, “What’s up,” while mentioning the Giants, a clear hint that he’s open to another run in New York.
But the idea of a reunion sounds far better in theory than it does in practice.
Pierre-Paul was a force in New York a decade ago, but that version of him is long gone. He turns 38 on January 1, and the recent NFL track record just doesn’t suggest much left in the tank.
His last sack came nearly four years ago, and he has played only 60 defensive snaps since the 2022 campaign. At this point, bringing him back would be about headlines, not impact.
That’s exactly why the Giants should remember how the Odell Beckham Jr. situation played out. Beckham returned this offseason as depth and insurance while Malik Nabers recovered from a torn ACL and meniscus, but he never became a real factor.
He didn’t record a catch and had just one target through three contests, and his role stayed limited as Nabers’ reps were managed. Head coach John Harbaugh said Beckham “earned his spot” on the roster, but the production never matched the sentiment.
That lesson matters now. If Beckham couldn’t carve out a meaningful role in a similar late-career return, it’s hard to see Pierre-Paul, who is older and has logged very little football in recent seasons, offering the Giants something more substantial.
None of that changes what Pierre-Paul meant to the franchise. He was a 2010 first-round pick, a legitimate game-wrecker in his prime, and a key part of the Giants’ Super Bowl XLVI run.
He still ranks 10th all time in Giants sacks with 58.5, one of 11 players in team history to reach at least 50. He also remains the only defensive lineman in the franchise’s top 20 in pass deflections, tying for fifth overall with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie at 47.
There is also one reason this isn’t completely out of the question: Harbaugh connection. Pierre-Paul and Harbaugh overlapped for one season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022 before getting back together in New York.
Harbaugh has already taken a late-career swing on Beckham and has leaned on several Ravens retreads with the Giants. So while the fit looks shaky, the link is real.
Still, familiarity only goes so far. The Giants need help, but another nostalgia-driven reunion with Pierre-Paul feels like one bridge they should leave standing in the rearview mirror.

Giants Quarterback Shakeup Could Change More Than Just The Depth Chart
J.J. McCarthys arrival gives the Giants a very different look at quarterback at a moment when the room was already in flux. After acquiring him from the Vikings, the team is treating him as more than just another arm in camp, viewing him as a stronger match for the offense than the other quarterbacks on the roster while Jaxson Dart works back from injury.
What makes the move noteworthy is how quickly it could ripple beyond the depth chart. The coaching staff is weighing McCarthys athleticism and how cleanly he fits into their game plans as it prepares for the upcoming slate, which means this is less about simply adding a body and more about whether the Giants have found a passer who changes what they can actually do on Sundays. Jaxson Dart Just Reignited An NFC East Quarterback Fear
Jayden Daniels path back from a dislocated left elbow has become one of the more closely watched injury stories in the NFC East, especially with reports suggesting Washington is hopeful he can return soon and possibly delay surgery until after the season. It is the kind of situation that puts every decision under a microscope, because for a franchise built around a young quarterback, the balance between immediate availability and long-term health can shape everything.
For the Giants, the contrast is impossible to miss. Jaxson Darts season-ending knee injury requires surgery and will keep him out through 2026, a much harsher outcome that leaves New York staring at a far longer recovery timeline. It also brings back a familiar cautionary memory for Washington, with Robert Griffin IIIs injury history still lingering as a reminder of how quickly one quarterback situation can turn into a defining organizational lesson. Giants Cut Odell Fast And It Says Plenty About This Roster
The Giants moved on from Odell Beckham Jr. after just three games, a surprisingly quick end to a reunion that was supposed to add experience and spark to the offense. Instead, the veteran receiver barely got on the field, drawing only one target before New York decided it had seen enough and released him from the active roster after Week 3 of the 2026 season.
John Harbaugh didnt leave much room for mystery, saying Beckham wasnt working for us and that the club didnt believe he could help this season. For a team still searching for a reliable identity, the decision says as much about the rosters urgency as it does about Beckhams fit, and it leaves one more question hanging over an offense that clearly isnt done being reshaped.
