The Giants are making a big commitment to one of the players who has helped steady their season, locking up cornerback Greg Newsome with a three-year extension worth $46 million.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, “Sources: Giants and CB Greg Newsome have agreed to a 3-yr $46 million extension with $32m guaranteed,”
The deal comes out of New York’s Week 8 bye and lands in the middle of Newsome’s one-year contract, which he signed this past offseason after stops with the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars. Now the Giants are keeping him around for the next three years.
Newsome has been a major part of why New York’s defense has held up so well. He has played in six games, been targeted 29 times, picked off one pass and allowed a passer rating of just 61.4, which is the best number of his NFL career.
That production has mattered for a Giants team that has had to navigate a pile of injury problems. Jaxson Dart went down very early in the season, and the club has also dealt with the loss of Brian Burns and Tremaine Edmunds to season-ending injuries, along with the trade of Dexter Lawrence.
Even with those setbacks, the Giants have stayed afloat behind strong cornerback play and contributions from backups and other offseason additions. Newsome’s performance has been one of the biggest reasons the defense has impressed and the Giants sit at 4-2-1 atop the NFC East.
John Harbaugh’s Giants come out of the bye with momentum, and now they’ve added another layer of stability by extending a veteran corner who was drafted in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Browns.

Giants Enter Eagles Week With A Big Cam Skattebo Concern
The Giants opened the week with a familiar injury-watch storyline around Cam Skattebo, who is still working back from the hamstring issue he picked up in Week 7 against the Texans. He was held out of practice Monday, leaving the backfield picture a little murkier as New York turns its attention to the next game.
John Harbaugh said Skattebos status will be handled day to day, with the real clarity likely to come later in the week. If the rookie cannot go, the Giants would have to lean more heavily on other options such as Devin Singletary and Gregory Desrosiers, which could change how they approach the offense in a matchup where every healthy piece matters. Derrick Henry Just Became A Ravens Trade Question Fans Can't Ignore
The Giants search for help could take them in a different direction as the 2026 NFL trade deadline approaches, with Derrick Henry now surfacing as a name to watch. New York had previously been tied to Jonathan Taylor, but the conversation has shifted as the market and the situation around Baltimore continue to evolve, giving the Giants another veteran back to consider if they decide to make a move.
Henrys availability is now part of the discussion because the Ravens are dealing with injuries to Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley, a development that could complicate how Baltimore handles its roster. For the Giants, it adds another layer to a running back picture that already had one prominent trade target attached to it, and it leaves open the question of whether they stay on that path or pivot as the deadline gets closer. Giants Deadline Reality Just Hit As Saquon Talk Dies
Saquon Barkley has taken himself out of the trade conversation, and that matters for a Giants team still looking for backfield help. Barkley said the Eagles told him he will not be moved before the Nov. 10 deadline, a development that shuts down any immediate dream of a reunion in New York and leaves the Giants to keep sorting through the running back market on their own terms.
The interest around Jonathan Taylor shows how aggressively the Giants are still weighing options, but a Barkley return was always going to be a long shot because of the contract and the cost involved. For a team trying to find answers behind a shaky offense, the larger reality is simple: the familiar name is off the board, and the search for help has to continue elsewhere. [Read more 🡒]
