Giants Trade Deadline Push Just Got A Lot More Complicated

The New York Giants face a trade deadline challenge as they navigate the complexities of missing draft picks in their pursuit of blockbuster deals.

The Giants want to make a move before the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline, but the math is getting in the way.

With six days left until the deadline, New York is trying to line up a deal, yet NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the team’s lack of fourth- and fifth-round selections in the 2027 NFL Draft is making it tougher to build trade packages that would appeal to teams considering moving players.

Schultz added that the Giants are trying to work around that problem by “pushing for bigger names who would require higher picks-and seem open to doing that.”

That shortage of mid-round capital traces back to two separate moves. The Giants sent their fourth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns so they could move up and draft wide receiver Malachi Fields this year.

They also used their fifth-round pick to land quarterback J.J. McCarthy after Jaxson Dart suffered his season-ending injury.

There is a possible fourth-round compensatory pick coming in 2027, but the Giants do not technically have it yet because compensatory picks are awarded only shortly before the draft. That means it can’t be included in any current trade talks.

General manager Joe Schoen was asked about the situation during his bye week press conference, and he defended the way those picks were used.

“Obviously you want to have as many picks as you can,” Schoen said. “But, again, we’re glad we have Malachi Fields.

We’re glad we have J.J. So, the utilization of those draft picks that we gave up to get those two players, we’re happy we have them.”

Head coach John Harbaugh said Monday that the Giants “always” want to improve the roster, but he also made clear that finding a workable deal is not simple.

“Easier said than done,” Harbaugh said. “And it’s hard to find players that can make you better, because we have good players.

Very good players. So, it’s got to be something that is a need, that fits your financial profile, that fits your price tag.

“It’s not like we have a bunch of draft picks, either. We’re not loaded with 12 or 13 draft picks where we’ve got draft capital to burn.

We don’t. So, we have to be smart shoppers that way.”

Harbaugh also said using 2028 picks remains an option, describing it as “it’s easier to put on the credit card.”

Giants Face A Defining Eagles Test As Pressure Builds On McCarthy

The Giants head into Lincoln Financial Field with a division lead and a familiar kind of road test, the sort that has not always gone well for them in Philadelphia. The Eagles are sliding on a six-game losing streak, but that only sharpens the stakes for a Giants team trying to keep control of the NFC East while sorting through some backfield uncertainty and leaning on a young quarterback who has given the offense a steadier feel.

J.J. McCarthy has already helped change the tone around the position, and his five starts have given the Giants reason to believe they may have found something real at quarterback. Still, this trip comes with the usual questions that follow a young passer into a tough building, and with the division race tightening, how McCarthy handles the moment will matter almost as much as the result itself. Giants Suddenly Face A Deadline Decision That Could Shape The NFC East

The Giants have spent the early part of the season holding the top spot in the NFC East even while injuries have thinned out key parts of the roster, and the timing could hardly be more delicate. With Philadelphia and Washington both still ahead on the schedule, every roster move now carries a little extra weight, especially for a team trying to protect an unexpected lead in a division that rarely stays settled for long.

One of the more intriguing possibilities is whether New York will look to add help before the Nov. 10 trade deadline, with running back Jonathan Taylor among the names tied to the conversation. The appeal is obvious for a team trying to stay ahead in a tight race, but the price tag could be just as important as the fit, and the Giants have already seen how difficult it can be to land premium talent when the asking price gets steep. Giants Suddenly Linked To A Move Fans Never Saw Coming

The trade deadline chatter around Baltimore has started to spill into New York, with the Ravens reportedly weighing whether to deal running back Derrick Henry before Nov. 10. For the Giants, the mention is notable because it points to a player with a long track record of changing games and a team that could be looking at roster help as the deadline approaches. New England has also been floated as a possible landing spot, but the Giants are among the clubs now being tied to the discussion.

John Harbaugh has already acknowledged that Baltimore could make moves before the deadline, and that alone has kept the speculation alive. For the Giants, the connection is part football fit and part familiarity, which is why the idea has surfaced so quickly even without any confirmation of a deal. For now, it remains just that, but it is the kind of rumor that can reshape the conversation around a team in a hurry. [Read more 🡒]
