The Todd Monken chapter in East Rutherford closed before it even opened, and now the Giants are shifting gears in their offensive coordinator search. What started as a pursuit of a seasoned veteran may be turning into a bet on a rising star - and that star just might be Charlie Weis Jr.
Charlie Weis Jr.: A Familiar Face with a Fast-Rising Resume
Weis Jr. is quickly becoming a name to watch in NFL coaching circles, and it’s not hard to see why. According to reports, he’s drawing serious attention for the Giants’ offensive coordinator position - a role that would reunite him with a quarterback he knows better than just about anyone: Jaxson Dart.
The connection between Weis and Dart runs deep. They arrived at Ole Miss together in 2022, and from the jump, Weis - then serving as OC and quarterbacks coach - helped sculpt Dart into one of the most productive passers in college football.
By 2024, Dart had shattered school records with 4,279 passing yards and a 180.7 passer efficiency rating. But it wasn’t just the numbers - it was the way they got there.
Weis built an offense around Dart’s strengths: quick decision-making, vertical accuracy, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced system. The result? A 73.5% completion rate in their final season together and an offense that consistently kept defenses on their heels.
A Young Coach with a Veteran Mindset
At just 32 years old, Weis Jr. already boasts a resume that punches well above his age. In 2025, his Ole Miss offense led all Power 4 programs in total offense, averaging a blistering 489.7 yards per game. That kind of production doesn’t happen by accident.
Weis comes from the Lane Kiffin coaching tree, and his offensive philosophy reflects it - a power spread system that blends tempo with pro-style passing concepts. It’s an aggressive, flexible scheme designed to create mismatches and force defenders into split-second decisions. For a young quarterback like Dart - and a Giants offense looking to unlock the potential of playmakers like Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers - that kind of system could be a game-changer.
And while Weis is currently expected to join Kiffin’s staff at LSU, the NFL door isn’t closed. In fact, it’s very much cracked open.
The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly had interest in Weis for their OC job earlier this offseason, but the timing wasn’t right. Now, with the Giants offering not just a promotion to NFL playcaller but a reunion with his former QB, the opportunity may be too good to pass up.
The Giants, Dart, and the Weis Legacy
There’s also a bit of full-circle poetry here. Charlie Weis Sr., of course, is no stranger to the Meadowlands.
He was part of the Giants’ coaching staff that won Super Bowl XXV under Bill Parcells, and later helped engineer the early-2000s Patriots dynasty alongside Tom Brady. While Weis Jr. is carving his own path, the family name already carries weight in Giants history.
But make no mistake - Weis Jr. isn’t riding coattails. His success at Ole Miss wasn’t inherited; it was earned.
His offenses were creative, explosive, and tailored to his quarterback’s strengths. And if the Giants are serious about building around Jaxson Dart, there may be no better candidate to lead that charge than the coach who helped unlock his ceiling in the first place.
The Giants’ next offensive coordinator hire is going to say a lot about their direction. Are they leaning into continuity, chemistry, and upside? If so, Charlie Weis Jr. fits the bill - and then some.
