Giants Suddenly Face A Real Cam Skattebo Decision

The Giants' Cam Skattebo, benched in Week 6, might be headed to the Seahawks in a potential trade that could reshape lineups and revive his NFL career.

Cam Skattebo’s name keeps surfacing in trade chatter, and the latest pitch has him landing with an NFC contender after a frustrating Week 6 on the sideline.

The Giants running back has been one of the league’s talking points over the last couple of weeks because of a rough start to the season and ongoing ball-security issues. Before Sunday’s matchup with the New Orleans Saints, John Harbaugh said there would come a point when he would make changes depending on Skattebo’s performance. Then Week 6 brought a louder signal than any quote could: the second-year back got zero carries, which immediately fueled skepticism from fans who didn’t buy Harbaugh’s explanation that Skattebo hadn’t been benched.

After the Giants’ 34-27 loss at MetLife Stadium, Harbaugh tried to clear up the usage question. “It wasn’t by design for him not to carry the ball. It was just, when he was in there, we didn’t call any runs,” Harbaugh said.

That situation has now fed a possible deal that would send Skattebo out of New York and help the Giants on the defensive side. On Monday, Ryan Roberts of A to Z Sports suggested a trade with the Seattle Seahawks that would send Cam Skattebo to Seattle in exchange for defensive tackle Rylie Mills and a 2027 fifth-round pick, projected at No. 165 overall.

Roberts pointed to Seattle’s need at running back, writing, “Seattle has a huge need at running back. First-round pick Jadarian Price is dealing with injuries, and the Seahawks are still waiting for Zach Charbonnet to return from his own injury. Adding Skattebo would give the backfield an immediate boost,” Roberts wrote.

He also noted that the Giants need help at defensive tackle, and that Mills could fit that opening. Mills isn’t starting for Seattle, but Roberts said he has shown quality flashes when he’s been on the pitch.

It’s only a proposal for now, but if the Giants keep sidelining Skattebo, the Seahawks could test the waters before the deadline.

Giants May Need To Find Out What Malachi Fields Really Is

Malachi Fields has been one of the quieter but steadier parts of the Giants passing game through his first five NFL games, giving the offense a little bit of reliability as it sorts out bigger-picture roles at receiver. He has been on the field enough to matter and productive enough to keep showing up in the game plan, even if his usage has still felt more like a taste than a full look.

With Theo Johnson ruled out for Week 6 and Darnell Mooney fully participating, the Giants may have some interesting personnel decisions to make as they figure out how to spread the ball around. The next question is whether the staff wants to use this stretch to find out what Fields really can be as an early target, without cutting into the work of the teams primary receivers. [Read more 🡒]

Jalen Hurts' Absence Just Changed Everything In The NFC East

Jalen Hurts season has apparently come to a stunning halt, and the ripple effect reaches well beyond Philadelphia. The Eagles quarterback had been trying to push through a serious health issue, and his absence now reshapes the entire NFC East picture, where every divisional game tends to carry extra weight and the margin for error is already thin.

Hurts had even played in London against the Jaguars without sleeping because sleeping was considered risky, a detail that underscores just how precarious the situation became before the decision was made. With the Eagles suddenly facing life without their franchise quarterback, the division race has taken on a very different look, and the Giants, along with everyone else in the NFC East, now have to adjust to a far less predictable stretch ahead. Giants Have A Cam Skattebo Problem Fans Can Clearly See

Cam Skattebos role has become one of the more interesting subplots around the Giants after his overtime fumble against Washington. In the Week 6 loss to the Saints, the rookie did not get a carry, a notable turn for a back who had been part of the offenses early plans and a player the team has been trying to develop as part of its future.

Head coach John Harbaugh pushed back on the idea that Skattebo was being outright benched, saying the usage came down to game situations and an attempt to spread reps around the backfield. Skattebo, though, has already acknowledged he felt the fallout from the turnover, and the bigger question now is whether this is just a temporary reset or the start of the Giants looking for a different answer at running back.
