Giants Suddenly Face A Different Eagles QB Problem This Week

With Joe Milton III stepping in as the Eagles' new quarterback, a potential game-changer awaits against the Giants who must adapt their strategy on the fly.

The Philadelphia Eagles are making a quarterback switch, and it’s the kind of move that changes the feel of this matchup in a hurry.

Joe Milton III is set to start, according to a report from Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport. That’s a twist the New York Giants probably weren’t expecting after spending much of the past week, since their upset win over the Houston Texans, getting ready for Tanner McKee.

McKee had been the guy for Philadelphia over the last three games, and the results have been rough. The Eagles are 0-3 in that stretch, with McKee completing 63.2 percent of his passes for 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. As a team, Philadelphia has dropped those three games by a combined 45-90.

Now the Eagles are turning to a very different quarterback profile.

Milton was drafted by the New England Patriots out of Tennessee in the 6th round of the 2024 NFL Draft, then traded to the Dallas Cowboys in the spring of 2025 before Philadelphia signed him off Dallas’ practice squad on October 16th. At 6-foot-5 and 236 pounds, he brings a bigger, more explosive presence than McKee. He’s athletic, strong-armed, and built to stress a defense in ways McKee simply doesn’t.

Milton has appeared in five games across 2024 and 2025, but his only real extended action came in the Patriots’ 2024-2025 Week 18 win over the Buffalo Bills. He didn’t start that game, but he finished 22 of 29 for 241 yards and a touchdown. It was a striking performance, though one he hasn’t matched since.

The raw tools have always been obvious. The consistency hasn’t.

Milton drew plenty of criticism in college for his accuracy and uneven play. Even with Tennessee’s simplistic offense, he completed just 38.6% of his passes beyond 10 yards downfield. He also wasn’t known for much timing, touch, or anticipation, and he’s more of a “fastball only” passer.

Still, his legs change the equation. Milton’s speed and power as a runner should force the Giants’ pass rush to stay disciplined, because if they get loose or lose contain, he can make them pay.

So New York gets a different test than the one it spent the week preparing for. And the bigger question now is whether Milton can give a flat Eagles offense the jolt it’s been missing.

Giants Enter Eagles Week With A Big Cam Skattebo Concern

The Giants backfield is suddenly worth watching as they turn the page toward their next game, with Cam Skattebo still working back from the hamstring injury he picked up in Week 7 against the Texans. He did not practice Monday, leaving New York with an early-week question mark at a position that has become central to how the offense wants to function.

John Harbaugh said Skattebos availability will be handled day to day, with the picture expected to sharpen later in the week. If he cannot go, the Giants would likely lean more on Devin Singletary and Gregory Desrosiers, a shift that would force the offense to adjust on the fly as the week unfolds. [Read more 🡒]

Greg Newsomes Rise After Jacksonville Just Took Another Painful Turn

Greg Newsomes first season with the Giants has moved quickly from short-term fit to long-term priority. After signing a one-year deal in the offseason following stops with the Browns and Jaguars, the cornerback has given New York enough through six games to make a bigger commitment, and the timing of the news fits neatly after the teams Week 8 bye. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported the extension, which signals the Giants already see Newsome as part of their defensive core.

For a player who arrived on a prove-it contract, this is a significant turn and a reminder of how fast a season can change a players standing. The Giants have been looking for stability in the secondary, and Newsomes early production has made him difficult to ignore as the front office weighs what the defense should look like beyond this year. Giants Deadline Reality Just Hit As Saquon Talk Dies

Saquon Barkleys name had lingered around the Giants running back conversation for obvious reasons, but the latest update makes the reunion chatter a nonstarter. Barkley said the Eagles have told him he will not be traded before the Nov. 10 deadline, and he made clear he still has respect for the organization while wanting to help Philadelphia push through its current struggles.

For the Giants, the bigger picture is still the same: they could use help at running back, and Jonathan Taylor remains the kind of name that naturally comes up when teams start surveying the market. A Barkley return, though, was always a long shot because of the contract and the cost it would take to pry him loose, leaving New York to keep looking elsewhere if it wants to add backfield punch.
