New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is headed toward season-ending surgery, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Rapoport said Dart’s ACL is intact and that he is expected to make a full recovery, but his season is done. Dart has been pursuing second opinions on the injury, though surgery appears to be the best route forward.
On air, Rapoport later said Dart suffered a torn meniscus and torn MCL, and that the procedure will address both injuries. He also reported that the recovery timeline is about six months, which would likely put Dart in position to participate in the Giants’ full 2027 offseason program.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Dart’s ACL is fine, but that he has damage to his MCL, PCL, and meniscus. Schefter identified the meniscus damage as the primary concern. The meniscus is a rubbery piece of cartilage in the knee that serves as a cushion and shock absorber in the joint.
A torn meniscus can sometimes be handled with rest and rehab, but more serious cases require surgery. Even with the operation, the outlook is encouraging, and the Giants still view Dart as their long-term answer at quarterback.
Rapoport also said the Giants are looking at every option at quarterback moving forward, though he does not expect a splashy move.
With Dart’s prognosis and recovery window becoming clearer, the Giants now know they’ll be without their starting quarterback until 2027. That leaves Jameis Winston to take the reins, and the team will need to adjust to what he brings.
