Giants Still Linked To 6 Time Pro Bowler Despite Cap Crunch

The New York Giants are eyeing veteran defensive tackle Calais Campbell to bolster their lineup, navigating cap space challenges while weighing their draft options.

The New York Giants are in a bit of a financial bind, needing to clear some cap space to sign their draft picks and keep a cushion for potential injuries or midseason moves. This makes any major roster additions seem unlikely. However, there's buzz around a potential game-changer for Big Blue.

Dan Duggan from The Athletic has sparked interest by highlighting a possible move for six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Calais Campbell. Known for his time with John Harbaugh in Baltimore, Campbell continues to impress as he nears 40. Last season, he inked a one-year deal with Arizona for $5.5 million, suggesting his price tag could be manageable for the Giants.

Campbell's performance in 2025 was nothing short of solid. Playing all 17 games for the Cardinals, he racked up 43 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 16 quarterback hits, earning a commendable 72.2 grade from Pro Football Focus. Despite his age, Campbell remains a productive force on the field, adding veteran savvy to any defense.

The Giants have a glaring need at defensive tackle next to Dexter Lawrence. Last season's run defense struggles are still fresh in the minds of fans, and while linebacker Tremaine Edmunds has been brought in, another interior defender would be a welcome addition.

The draft could be another avenue for addressing this need, given its depth in defensive tackles. However, with only two picks in the first two days, finding the right fit might be a challenge.

Adding Campbell would not only bolster the Giants' defense but also bring a familiar face to Harbaugh from their Ravens days. It's a move that could pay dividends for New York, both on the field and in the locker room.
