The Giants’ pursuit of Todd Monken officially came to a close on Wednesday, as the former Ravens offensive coordinator accepted the head coaching job with the Cleveland Browns. New York had been eyeing Monken to fill their vacant offensive coordinator role and reunite him with John Harbaugh, but the veteran play-caller had his sights set on a bigger opportunity - and he got it.
According to reports, Monken and the Giants had been in discussions over the last several days, working toward a potential deal to bring him aboard. But with the Browns job in play, Monken held out - and ultimately landed the top spot in Cleveland.
Monken’s connection to Harbaugh ran deep, having served as Baltimore’s offensive coordinator from 2023 through 2025. His departure now leaves the Giants still searching for the right architect to guide their offense and, perhaps more importantly, to help second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart take the next step in his development.
Dart showed flashes during his rookie campaign, but consistency remained elusive - something a strong OC hire could help stabilize. That’s why the Giants are casting a wide net in their search. This week, they submitted a request to interview Davis Webb, currently the Broncos’ passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Webb’s name carries some familiarity in East Rutherford. He was originally a third-round pick by the Giants back in 2017.
After brief stops with the Jets and Bills, he returned to the Giants in 2022 as a backup quarterback. He made his first - and only - NFL start in the regular season finale that year against the Eagles, a game in which the Giants had already locked up the No. 6 seed in the NFC and rested their starters.
Webb made the most of the moment, tossing a touchdown to Kenny Golladay and adding a rushing score of his own.
That performance marked the end of his playing career, but not his time in the league. The Broncos brought him in the following offseason to join Sean Payton’s staff, and he’s quickly earned a reputation as a sharp offensive mind with a strong rapport with quarterbacks.
For the Giants, this next hire is about more than just X’s and O’s - it’s about building a structure around Dart that promotes growth and stability. Monken might be off the table, but the search continues - and Webb could be one of several intriguing candidates to watch.
