Giants May Have An Unexpected Devin Singletary Trade Opening

Could Devin Singletarys odd start with the Giants position him for an unexpected role in the Seahawks' injury-driven search for a reliable backfield reinforcement?

Devin Singletary’s days with the Giants look numbered, and the timing could make him a clean fit for a Seahawks team that suddenly needs help in the backfield.

Singletary was a healthy scratch for the second straight game, a pretty clear sign he’s not part of New York’s current plans. With a revamped Giants front office moving aggressively and Seattle hunting for running back depth, a deal starts to make a lot of sense.

The Seahawks had been looking at backfield help, with head coach Mike Macdonald saying they were "going through the process" of onboarding Mixon to their practice squad. That path has now closed, since it’s been reported that the two-time Pro Bowler won’t join the club following his physical. That leaves Singletary as a possible next option.

Seattle’s need is real. The team has gotten solid production from offseason newcomer Emanuel Wilson, but it has also taken hits. First-round rookie Jadarian Price is on injured reserve after reaggravating a chest issue that first surfaced in practice during Week 2, and Zach Charbonnet remains a long way from returning from the ACL tear he suffered last January.

On New York’s side, the roster math is pushing Singletary out. Under new leadership led by head coach John Harbaugh, the Giants have already made six trades since April, including several that moved players for draft capital. Singletary appears to have lost his spot, and there isn’t an obvious role waiting for him.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. has a special teams job that helps keep him on the game-day roster, while Najee Harris has become the clear top backup behind bell cow Cam Skattebo. That leaves Singletary on the outside looking in, and New York could try to recover whatever value it can from the veteran.

At 29, Singletary is on an expiring $1.3 million contract, and it likely wouldn’t take much to pry him loose. In some ways, he may actually fit Seattle better than Mixon did.

Mixon hasn’t played an NFL snap since the 2024 Divisional Round with the Houston Texans. He’s been dealing with a "degenerative" foot problem that kept him out for all of 2025 and "may never allow him to play again," according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Even before the injury, the 2017 second-round pick was trending down, which makes Seattle’s original interest easy to question.

Singletary, by contrast, could step in right away and help bridge the gap until Price and Charbonnet are back. The reigning Super Bowl champs just need someone dependable enough to keep things steady for now, and Singletary offers that kind of stopgap value.

He may not be flashy at this stage, but he does enough to matter. Singletary is durable, handles pass protection, and can catch the ball out of the backfield. Since entering the league in 2019, the Florida Atlantic product has posted at least 500 scrimmage yards every season, though that streak is now in real danger unless he finds a new home or gets a different opportunity in New York.

Giants Add A Receiver With Ties Fans Definitely Did Not Expect

The Giants are adding another wide receiver to the mix, signing Dontae Fleming to the practice squad after bringing him in for a visit. Fleming has spent time with the Vikings, and his path to New York comes with some unusual familiar faces, including ties to Giants players Dalen Cambre and J.J. McCarthy.

The move also adds another layer to a transaction cycle that has linked the two teams in recent days, with Minnesota signing recently released Giants player Odell Beckham Jr. to its practice squad. For New York, Fleming is a low-risk depth addition, but the connections around him make this a little more interesting than your typical roster shuffle. [Read more 🡒]

Odell Beckham Jr. Just Landed Another NFL Chance After Giants Exit

The Vikings are taking a low-risk look at Odell Beckham Jr., signing the veteran receiver to their practice squad as they try to patch together depth at a position that has been hit hard by injuries, including the absence of Justin Jefferson. Beckhams latest NFL opportunity comes not long after his release from the Giants, giving him a chance to quickly move from a familiar stop back into another contenders orbit.

What happens next is still up in the air, including whether Beckham will be available for the upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints. For a player trying to re-establish himself after leaving New York, Minnesota offers a path back into the conversation, but first he has to get through the week and show he can be more than a short-term depth answer. Giants Keep Sending The Same Frustrating Message About Jalin Hyatt

Braxton Berrios landing on injured reserve after the foot injury he suffered in Week 4 changes the Giants special teams picture in a hurry, with Charlie Jones expected to step in as the teams primary punt and kick returner. It is another one of those early-season roster shifts that usually creates an opening somewhere else, especially for a receiver trying to climb into the mix.

Jalin Hyatt, though, still does not appear close to being that guy. Even with Berrios out and Odell Beckham Jr. gone, the Giants remain reluctant to promote Hyatt to the active roster, a sign that his limited production since entering the league is still weighing on his standing. For a team that could use more juice on offense, the message has been frustratingly consistent. [Read more 🡒]
