Giants Linked to Kingsbury and Another Veteran in Coordinator Search

As the Giants search for a new offensive coordinator gains momentum, two seasoned play-callers with contrasting rsums have emerged as leading contenders.

The New York Giants' search for a new offensive coordinator is heating up, and two familiar names are now officially in the mix: Kliff Kingsbury and Brian Callahan.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, both Kingsbury and Callahan have been involved in the Giants’ initial round of interviews for the OC position. So far, those interviews have been conducted virtually, but finalists are expected to meet with the team in person later this week as the process enters a more serious phase.

For Kingsbury, this marks a potential return to the NFL play-calling ranks after a brief stint with the Washington Commanders as their offensive coordinator. Before that, he served as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, where his offensive schemes showed flashes of innovation-though consistency was often elusive. Still, his reputation as a quarterback-friendly mind with a spread-offense background makes him an intriguing fit for a Giants team looking to revamp its attack.

Callahan, meanwhile, comes with a different kind of résumé. He most recently served as head coach of the Tennessee Titans, a role he held through the 2024 season and part of 2025 before being let go after compiling a 4-19 record.

While that head coaching stint didn’t pan out, Callahan built a strong reputation as an offensive coordinator during his time with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2019 to 2023. That stretch included some of Joe Burrow’s most productive years, and Callahan’s ability to tailor game plans to his quarterback’s strengths could be a key asset for the Giants moving forward.

His coaching journey has also taken him through stops in Denver, Oakland, and Detroit, giving him a well-rounded background across multiple offensive systems. That kind of experience could be valuable for a Giants offense that’s struggled to find its identity in recent years.

One wrinkle to watch: As pointed out by Bob Brookover of NJ.com, Jim Harbaugh-who is now in place as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers-has never hired a first-time offensive play-caller during his 18 seasons as a head coach. That insight could suggest the Giants are leaning toward someone with established play-calling experience, which both Kingsbury and Callahan have.

Adding another layer of intrigue, former Giants head coach Brian Daboll is now the offensive coordinator in Tennessee, meaning a potential Giants-Callahan pairing would essentially be a role reversal between the two coaches.

The Giants are clearly casting a wide net in their search, and with in-person interviews on the horizon, the picture could come into focus soon. Whether they opt for Kingsbury’s high-tempo, pass-heavy style or Callahan’s adaptable, quarterback-centric approach, one thing is clear: the Giants are looking for a spark to reignite their offense-and both candidates bring something different to the table.
