Michael Strahan has worn a lot of hats since hanging up his cleats-Super Bowl champion, Hall of Famer, and now one of the most recognizable faces in American media. But during a recent appearance on the New Heights podcast with Jason Kelce, Strahan gave fans a glimpse into what could be the next chapter of his career: slowing things down.
When Kelce asked what’s next, Strahan didn’t hesitate. “Retirement,” he said with a laugh-but the tone carried some weight. Strahan, who currently juggles co-hosting Good Morning America on ABC and appearing on Fox NFL Sunday, hinted that the grind of a packed schedule is starting to wear on him.
“I love Fox. I truly love that,” he said. “But you work so much, I want to go here, I want to go there, and I can’t do a lot of things because I’ve got these commitments and schedules and stuff.”
That’s not just idle talk. Strahan recently re-upped with ABC on a new deal that reportedly lightened his workload, signaling even then that he was looking for more balance. But now, it sounds like he’s thinking bigger-maybe even stepping away from GMA altogether.
Still, for fans who’ve come to enjoy his easygoing presence and football insight, there’s no need to panic just yet. Strahan made it clear he’s not disappearing from the spotlight entirely.
“I’m not just going to completely disappear,” he assured. “I’ll do Fox until they throw me off of Fox. I don’t want to be 80 years old on Fox, but I’ll stick around a little bit longer.”
It’s classic Strahan-honest, grounded, and always thinking a few steps ahead. Whether he’s breaking down edge rush technique or interviewing world leaders, he’s built a second act that’s just as impactful as his first. And if retirement is on the horizon, it’s clear he’s earned the right to call the next play on his terms.
