The Giants added to their defensive backfield Tuesday, reportedly signing D.J. James after a workout session that included eight players at The Greenbrier Sports Performance Center in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
James entered the league as a sixth-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2024, but he was waived at the end of the preseason. He then spent most of 2024 and 2025 on the Patriots’ practice squad and appeared in one game last season.
Among the players the Giants also brought in was a familiar face: Dee Williams, who spent last season on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad after playing in 12 games for Seattle in 2024 and one game for the Giants. In that lone appearance for New York, he returned one kickoff for 23 yards.
The workout group also included several offensive linemen and a safety. Darrian Dalcourt, 25, went undrafted out of Alabama and spent the 2024 season on the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad before being waived ahead of the 2025 season.
He later landed on the practice squads of the Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers, and Browns during 2025. The Giants have a couple of built-in connections there, with John Harbaugh familiar with him from Baltimore and offensive line coach Mike Bloomgren having coached him last season in Cleveland.
Wesley French, 29, has seen NFL action with the Colts, where he played in 17 games with three starts in 2023. He spent 2024 on injured reserve and was on the Browns’ and Cowboys’ practice squads last season.
Brenden Jaimes, 27, was a fifth-round pick of the Chargers in 2021 and has appeared in 50 NFL games with three starts. His experience spans four seasons with Los Angeles and one game with New England.
David Long brought the most starting experience among the cornerbacks worked out. A third-round pick by the Rams in 2019, he has played in 80 regular-season games with 12 starts. Since his time in Los Angeles ended after four seasons, he has had stints with the Raiders, Panthers twice, Packers, and Colts, and he played one game for Carolina last season.
Max Scharping, 29, was a second-round pick by the Texans in 2019 and has logged 81 regular-season games with 33 starts. He spent three seasons in Houston, two with the Bengals, and played in two games last season for the Steelers.
J.T. Woods, a third-round pick by the Chargers in 2022, has played in 13 games over the 2022 and 2023 seasons. After that, he moved through practice squads with the Eagles, Bears, Seahawks, Raiders, and Jets.
