The Giants are keeping Jameis Winston around a little longer.
According to a report from Ari Meirov, New York has extended the quarterback on a deal that is said to add two years and $13 million. It’s a notable vote of confidence in a player who arrived with a path to the starting job, only to watch the depth chart shuffle in a big way.
Winston, 32, originally signed a two-year, $8 million contract in 2025. At that point, he was positioned to open as the Giants’ starter. That changed after New York brought in Russell Wilson and drafted Jaxson Dart, pushing Winston down to third on the depth chart.
Then came another twist. When Mike Kafka became interim head coach in the second half of the 2025 season, Winston and Wilson switched spots on the depth chart.
Winston wound up appearing in three games, including two starts. Against the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, he passed for 567 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also turned in one of the more memorable plays of the year with a touchdown catch against the Lions.
Beyond the stat line, Winston has carved out a real role in the locker room. He’s become a leader for the Giants and a resource for Dart, while still bringing the kind of energy that makes him an entertaining presence.
The message from the Giants is clear: they see Winston as part of what comes next. He may have a future in the media someday, but for now, he wants to stay in New York.
