The Giants’ brief Daniel Faalele experiment is over.
New York has traded the offensive lineman to the Jaguars, with the Giants receiving a 2027 seventh-round pick, according to the first report from Evan Barnes. It closes the book on a move that never really got off the ground after Faalele arrived in North Jersey earlier this offseason.
Faalele’s path to the Giants made sense on paper. He followed former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh’s pipeline after spending four years in Baltimore, where he was selected with the 110th pick in the 2022 Draft out of Minnesota. The 26-year-old came to New York looking like a contender for the starting right guard job.
That opportunity changed fast. Once the Giants used the 10th overall pick on Francis Mauigoa, the future at the position was effectively spoken for. With other depth options also getting looks - including Evan Neal - Faalele’s place on the roster started to fade.
The Giants also did the math and found an easy deal to make. New York did not have a 2027 seventh-round pick, so the return at least gives the team another Day 3 asset.
On the field, Faalele’s issues were hard to miss. He is listed at 6-foot-8 and 380 pounds, but his pass protection, pad level, and lateral mobility have been persistent problems throughout his NFL career. Those same concerns showed up again in Saturday’s preseason opener against Minnesota, where he had trouble holding up in pass protection and looked uncomfortable moving in space.
His numbers from the game told the story. Faalele finished with a 0.0 pass-blocking grade from PFF on seven reps and an overall grade of 40.2 across 13 snaps.
Jacksonville, meanwhile, is taking a swing on another former Raven. Patrick Mekari, who left Baltimore to sign with the Jaguars last offseason, underwent back surgery and is expected to miss an extended stretch, though he is expected to return for the 2026 season. That opened a spot the Jaguars needed to fill.
In the end, Faalele’s stint with the Giants lasted just 133 days. New York moves on with a little extra draft capital and more reps available for the rest of the offensive line competition.
