The Giants left Los Angeles with a 28-6 loss on Monday Night Football, and the night unraveled fast. Jaxson Dart was knocked out on the opening offensive series, the offense never found a rhythm, and New York spent most of the game chasing the Rams while Matt Stafford and company piled up 481 yards. The Giants finished with just 182 total yards, went 3 of 14 on third down, and absorbed another rough dose of injuries on top of the defeat.
It started going sideways early, and one of the biggest swings came when the Giants tried to sort out Davante Adams in coverage. New York lined up with split safeties and a middle-of-the-field open look, then Tyler Nubin rotated down toward Adams and made contact with the receiver.
Adams still came free behind linebacker Zaire Barnes to catch a well-placed Stafford throw, and the coverage broke down from there. Jevon Holland reacted late on a shallow angle after the pass, leaving Adams enough room to stroll into the end zone.
Adams added another touchdown later in the game, beating rookie Colton Hood on a fade route that helped stretch the Rams’ lead to 17 points.
Kyren Williams also found space when the Giants’ defense lost its discipline. On a touchdown that pushed Los Angeles ahead by 14, Arvell Reese stayed tight to the in-breaking route of the No. 2 receiver while Williams, releasing as the third receiver to the boundary, slipped into the soft spot between Reese and Hood.
That left Williams an easy catch and another score. It was Reese’s second coverage mistake that ended in a touchdown.
The long gain that set up that Williams score was another rough moment for New York’s secondary. After the earlier touchdown to Adams, Nubin bit on a move and gave up a 64-yard third-down conversion that put the Rams in position to strike again.
He was exposed throughout the night, overpursuing and looking unsure of where he needed to be. Nubin did manage to knock away a pass from Terrance Ferguson in the third quarter, but the bigger story was how often he was beaten.
Terrance Ferguson was part of the Rams’ final hammer blow, too. Stafford kept finding open grass against a Giants defense that had already started to fade, and Ferguson capped his breakout performance with a 5-yard touchdown that made it 29-6. By then, the game had long since slipped away from New York.
Jevon Holland did give the Giants a brief jolt by forcing his second turnover of the game, punching the ball out of Kyren Williams’ hands with 3:11 left in the second half. But even that break turned into little more than a missed opportunity.
New York took over at the 11-yard line and ran five plays, including a stretch where Cam Skattebo was spelled on second-and-five and third-and-two in favor of Harris. The Giants settled for three points after four runs, with the final two going to Harris instead of Skattebo, and the decision drew plenty of questions.
The Rams never looked rattled, and the Giants never recovered from the damage that kept piling up around them.
