The shake-up continues in East Rutherford.
The Giants have parted ways with assistant defensive line coach Bryan Cox, marking yet another move in what's become a sweeping overhaul of their coaching staff this season. While defensive line coach Andre Patterson is expected to stay on, Cox’s departure adds to a growing list of changes in a year that’s seen the team hit the reset button on multiple fronts.
Cox, 57, brought a wealth of experience to the Giants’ sideline. A former Pro Bowl linebacker, he played 12 seasons in the NFL across five teams - the Dolphins, Bears, Jets, Patriots, and Saints - known for his physical style and fiery presence on the field.
That intensity carried over into his coaching career, which began in 2006 with the Jets as an assistant defensive line coach. Over the years, he built a solid résumé with stops in Cleveland, Miami, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta before landing in New York in 2022.
Now in his third season with the Giants, Cox had been part of a defensive staff that has seen its share of ups and downs. His dismissal follows the recent firings of head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, signaling that the Giants are serious about retooling their approach - especially on the defensive side of the ball.
While Patterson’s expected return provides some continuity for the defensive front, Cox's exit underscores the broader theme: this is a franchise in transition, not just at the top, but deep into the positional coaching ranks. The Giants are clearly re-evaluating everything, from scheme to staff, as they try to chart a new course forward.
For Cox, this marks the end of his latest NFL chapter, but given his experience and reputation in league circles, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him land another opportunity soon. As for the Giants, the moves made so far suggest they're not just tweaking around the edges - they’re rebuilding the foundation.
