Giants Eye Pro Day Standout As Dru Phillips Replacement

The New York Giants might find an ideal successor for Dru Phillips in Pro Day sensation Keionte Scott, despite the complexities of draft positions and team needs.

The New York Giants are facing a pivotal decision in their secondary, particularly with the future of nickel cornerback Dru Phillips. After a stellar rookie season in 2024, Phillips hit a rough patch last year, raising questions about his role as the starting nickel CB. With new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson at the helm, there's hope Phillips can bounce back, but the Giants would be wise to explore all options to ensure they have the strongest lineup possible.

Enter Keionte Scott, a standout defensive back from Miami. Scott's college performance, especially during the College Football Playoff, was nothing short of remarkable.

His Pro Day only solidified his status as a top prospect, showcasing his speed and athleticism with a 4.35 40-yard dash, a 10.3" broad jump, and an impressive 44-inch vertical. These numbers are catching the eyes of NFL scouts everywhere.

Scott's on-field performance speaks volumes as well. In five CFP games, he allowed fewer than 50 yards each, even when matched against Ohio State’s high-octane offense, where he effectively contained star receiver Brandon Inniss.

However, the Giants face a dilemma. Scott is projected to go in the late second or early third round of the draft, but the Giants are without a third-round pick due to the Jaxson Dart trade. Selecting him with their 37th pick seems unlikely, which means acquiring Scott might require some strategic maneuvering.

While the Giants’ primary need might be at outside corner, Scott’s talent makes him an intriguing option if they can find a way to draft him. His journey from Auburn and Snow College to Miami showcases his resilience and adaptability, proving he's ready for the NFL stage despite his age.

Trading down from the 37th pick or finding a way back into the third round could pave the way for Scott to join Big Blue. If the Giants aim to challenge Phillips and bolster their secondary, Scott could be the perfect addition-if they can navigate the draft to make it happen.
