Giants Eye Four OC Candidates After Todd Monken Lands New NFL Job

With Todd Monken off the table, the Giants turn to a mix of familiar names and rising minds in their search for a new offensive coordinator.

The Cleveland Browns have found their next head coach - and it’s a name that might raise some eyebrows: Todd Monken. The former Ravens offensive coordinator is heading back to Cleveland, where he previously served as offensive coordinator in 2019. This time, he takes the reins as head coach, stepping into a role that, for a while, seemed like no one wanted.

Monken’s departure from Baltimore officially ends any speculation about a potential reunion with John Harbaugh in New York. There had been some buzz about Monken possibly joining Harbaugh if he made the move to the Giants, but that door is now closed.

So where does that leave the Giants in their head coaching search? With Monken off the board, New York’s front office is pivoting - and fast. Here are a few names that are reportedly in the mix, and why each might make sense.

Davis Webb

The Giants have requested to speak with Webb, currently a rising star on the Broncos staff. He’s already familiar with the Giants organization - twice, in fact.

Drafted by New York in 2017, Webb also returned for a second stint later in his career. That familiarity could work in his favor, especially for a franchise looking to restore some stability.

He’s young, he’s energetic, and he’s gaining traction around the league as a coach on the rise.

Charlie Weis Jr.

Weis Jr.’s name has surfaced, but don’t expect him to be walking through the doors at MetLife anytime soon. Reports suggest he’s staying put at LSU to continue working with Lane Kiffin. Still, the fact that his name is in the conversation shows how highly regarded he is in coaching circles - even if the timing isn’t quite right for a move to the NFL.

Nate Scheelhaase

Scheelhaase is another name drawing attention. Currently the Rams’ passing game coordinator, his connection to Sean McVay certainly doesn’t hurt.

McVay’s coaching tree is one of the most respected in the league, and Scheelhaase’s work in Los Angeles has turned heads. If the Giants are looking to bring in a fresh offensive mind with modern concepts, he fits the mold.

Greg Roman

Then there’s Greg Roman - a name with deep ties to the region and a résumé that includes time as offensive coordinator under John Harbaugh in Baltimore. Roman’s from New Jersey, and his power-run philosophy has found success in multiple stops. If the Giants are looking for a more physical identity, Roman could be a candidate worth watching.

While it’s still early in the process, the Giants are clearly casting a wide net. With Monken heading to Cleveland, the search continues - and the next few days could be pivotal in determining the direction of the franchise.
