The New York Giants are in a bit of a bind when it comes to their cornerback situation, even after a busy free agency period. While they brought in Greg Newsome II, losing Cor'Dale Flott might have left them with more questions than answers in the secondary.
Sure, they could look to the NFL Draft to fill this gap, but with only two picks in the first three rounds and other needs to address, the Giants might not want to put all their eggs in the draft basket. It seems likely they'll draft a cornerback, but waiting until Day 3 might not be the most strategic move. Adding a veteran presence could provide some much-needed stability.
Enter Trevon Diggs as a potential option. Once a standout with the Dallas Cowboys, Diggs was released in 2025 and finished the season with the Green Bay Packers.
Although injuries have plagued him over the past few years, his past performances are hard to ignore. Back in 2021, Diggs was a force, snagging 11 interceptions, including two pick-sixes, and earning both Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors.
Unfortunately, injuries have limited his playtime to just 22 games over the last three seasons, starting with an ACL tear in 2023. While the odds of Diggs returning to his peak form are slim, a healthy Diggs could still be a valuable asset.
For the Giants, signing Diggs to a one-year prove-it deal might be a savvy move. It gives them a chance to bolster their secondary without a long-term commitment.
Meanwhile, they're hoping Paulson Adebo can rebound from a lackluster debut season in New York. But relying solely on an Adebo-Newsome pairing for a full 17-game stretch feels risky.
In the end, bringing in Diggs could be a smart gamble for the Giants, offering depth and experience to a position in need of reinforcement.
