INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Dexter Lawrence's Comeback Season: A Look Ahead
Dexter Lawrence's 2025 season wasn't quite what Giants fans were hoping for, and it turns out his elbow might have played a bigger role than we knew. According to Giants GM Joe Schoen, Lawrence was still feeling the effects of a dislocated elbow from 2024-a year when he was a dominant force on the field, racking up a career-high 9.0 sacks in just 12 games before the injury sidelined him.
Fast forward to 2025, and Lawrence's sack count dropped to just 0.5. Schoen suggests the elbow was a lingering issue, but he’s quick to point out that football is a team sport. “It’s never just one person on defense,” Schoen noted, emphasizing that the entire unit could have performed better.
Now, about that 2024 season-Schoen describes Lawrence’s nine sacks as a rare feat for a 6-foot-4, 340-pound nose tackle. “That’s insane,” he said, acknowledging that such numbers are exceptional in Lawrence's position. But Schoen is optimistic, believing Lawrence still has plenty of good years ahead and expects him to bounce back strong.
As for trade rumors? They’re nonexistent.
Schoen confirmed that no teams have come knocking for Lawrence, who’s heading into his 29th year. The Giants have every intention of keeping him on the roster.
Lawrence is currently in the middle of a four-year, $90 million contract extension, but with no guaranteed salary left. Despite this, he hasn't requested a new deal. The Giants are confident in Lawrence's ability to return to form and make a significant impact in the upcoming season.
