Cam Skattebo and Shedeur Sanders Steal the Show at Streamer Bowl VII with Lighthearted Banter
Even when he's not on the field, Cam Skattebo knows how to make an impact.
The New York Giants rookie running back, sidelined late in the season with an ankle injury, found a different way to stay in the spotlight during Super Bowl week-this time, with a controller in hand and a mic close by. Skattebo joined a crew of young NFL talent at the Twitch Rivals Streamer Bowl VII in New Orleans, an event that blended gaming, charity, and plenty of unscripted moments. And it didn’t take long for Skattebo to spark one of the most viral clips of the week.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders was also in the mix, and the two rookies found themselves side by side before the gaming action kicked off. What started as a casual conversation quickly turned into some good-natured trash talk that lit up social media.
The moment came when Sanders asked, “Hey, why can’t we get some balloons?” Without missing a beat, Skattebo shot back: “Because you didn’t buy ’em, you’re broke.”
Sanders, grinning, replied, “We bought the turtle.” But Skattebo wasn’t done. “You mad ’cause you’re broke, asking for it,” he teased.
It was the kind of playful exchange that fans love-two young stars enjoying the moment, trading jabs with a smile, and showing off their off-field personalities. The clip made the rounds online, with fans quick to embrace the chemistry between the two rookies.
The event itself wasn’t just about jokes and gaming. The Streamer Bowl featured a $50,000 charity prize pool and brought together NFL players and popular streamers for a series of competitions.
Big names like Micah Parsons, Jaxson Dart, and the Kelce brothers were all part of the action. Team Pink took home the win, but let’s be honest-the highlight reel belonged to the lighter moments.
At one point, Skattebo, Sanders, and Parsons gave fans another laugh when they jumped back in surprise after mistaking a turtle for a snake. The scare turned into more jokes, adding to the laid-back, entertaining vibe of the day.
Skattebo’s “broke” comment also came with a bit of context. Sanders, drafted by the Browns at No. 144 overall, signed a rookie deal worth around $4.6 million over four years-a solid contract, but far from the first-round money some of his peers pulled in. It was all in jest, of course, and Sanders took the ribbing in stride.
On the field, both rookies had very different introductions to the league. Skattebo made an early impact in New York, rushing for 410 yards and five touchdowns in just eight games before his season was cut short by injury.
Sanders, meanwhile, led the Browns’ offense and put together a promising rookie campaign, throwing for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns. His performance earned him an alternate spot in the 2026 Pro Bowl-a strong start for a fifth-round pick.
While the Super Bowl spotlight shines brightest on the teams still playing, events like Streamer Bowl VII give fans a glimpse into the personalities of the league’s next wave of stars. For Skattebo and Sanders, it was a chance to show they’re more than just athletes-they’re entertainers, teammates, and young leaders with bright futures ahead.
Skattebo continues to rehab his ankle with hopes of returning strong next season. Sanders, on the other hand, is already gearing up for year two in Cleveland, looking to build on a solid foundation. If their off-field chemistry is any indication, the league’s in good hands with this new generation.
