As we dive into the 2026 NFL offseason, the Chicago Bears are making strategic moves to fill some key gaps on their roster. They've already bolstered their defense by bringing in Devin Bush at linebacker and Coby Bryant at safety. However, the Bears still have a glaring need for an edge rusher, and there's a compelling case for targeting Kayvon Thibodeaux from the New York Giants.
While Maxx Crosby was once a target, the focus has shifted. Sports Illustrated's Mike Kadlick is advocating for the Bears to trade for Thibodeaux. This 25-year-old pass rusher, with 23.5 career sacks over four seasons, could be the perfect fit for Chicago.
Kadlick points out, "The Bears were interested in Crosby before he returned to the Raiders, and they still need to address the edge rusher position this offseason. Trading for Thibodeaux, who's still on his rookie contract, would be a significant win for Ryan Poles and the Bears' front office."
The Giants might be open to moving Thibodeaux, especially after drafting Abdul Carter and having Brian Burns solidify one of their starting spots. This has made Thibodeaux more expendable.
Drafted fifth overall in 2022, Thibodeaux has had a solid career with the Giants, but his role diminished last season with Carter's arrival. His stats for the season-2.5 sacks, 25 tackles, five tackles for loss, and nine quarterback hits-were career lows, partly due to playing just 10 games.
Over his four-year tenure, Thibodeaux has been a force, playing in 53 games with 13 passes defended, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown, 152 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, and 55 QB hits.
The price for Thibodeaux might be steep, possibly a third-round pick, but that's a bargain compared to the two first-rounders the Ravens paid for Crosby. For Chicago, securing Thibodeaux could be a smart move, giving them the pass-rushing prowess they need, while the Giants gain valuable draft capital. It's a trade that could benefit both teams this offseason.
