Why Saints Fans Are Finally Hearing Different 2026 Offense Buzz

With strategic offseason moves and emerging talent, the New Orleans Saints' offense is primed for a transformative 2026 season under new leadership.

The New Orleans Saints are starting to draw real buzz for 2026, and one NFL analyst thinks the offense is the biggest reason why.

The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen listed five offenses he expects to break out next season, and he saved the Saints for last. That comes with plenty of optimism around New Orleans after a strong finish to 2025, even if sportsbooks still aren’t treating them like the favorite to win the NFC South.

Nguyen pointed to how much of the foundation is already in place. He noted that the Saints have built their offensive line through the draft, with left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. coming in this year and right tackle Taliese Fuaga arriving in 2024. He also highlighted Chris Olave’s rise into star territory and said Tyler Shough, a second-round pick last season, looks capable of becoming an above-average starter.

The backfield, in Nguyen’s view, doesn’t need a headline-grabber to work. He wrote that while the Saints don’t have a star at running back, the pairing of Travis Etienne Jr. and Alvin Kamara should be enough.

The line could be the real swing factor. Nguyen said free-agent addition David Edwards, whom he called the best guard available, gives New Orleans a chance to field a very strong front.

That matters because the Saints were 28th in rushing success last season and finished with the league’s worst red zone touchdown percentage. Nguyen doesn’t expect the ground game to suddenly become explosive, but he does think it can become more efficient and help clean up those red zone problems.

Protection for Shough is the other major piece. The Saints ranked 29th in pass block win rate in 2025, and Nguyen believes another year of growth for Banks plus Edwards inside him should help keep the quarterback cleaner.

That’s no small thing. According to Pro Football Focus, Shough ranked 41st among qualifying quarterbacks in pressure-to-sack rate, and his efficiency falls sharply when he’s under pressure.

If New Orleans can give him time, Nguyen thinks Shough has a path to producing like a tier 2 quarterback. It would also be his second season in Kellen Moore’s system, with Chris Olave and first-round pick Jordyn Tyson available as targets. Nguyen said Tyson has WR1 ability, but also noted that he has to stay healthy after limited participation in OTAs because of a hamstring injury suffered last season.

These Saints Could Change Everything If Camp Hype Becomes Real

The Saints are heading toward 2026 with a cluster of young players who could reshape the roster if the summer buzz carries into the fall. Jonas Sanker, Ja'Lynn Polk, Quincy Riley, Martin Emerson Jr., Danny Stutsman, Vernon Broughton and Julian Blackmon all sit in that category of prospects and recent additions who have flashed enough to make the coaching staff think there is real upside waiting to be unlocked.

For New Orleans, the intrigue is less about one headline name than the way several jobs are suddenly open to be won. Sanker has a new opportunity, Polk arrives with expectations attached, Riley and Emerson are in the mix on the outside, Stutsman has a path to more responsibility at linebacker and Blackmon is trying to build on the role he earned before his season was cut short. If even a few of those camp stories turn into real production, the Saints could look a lot deeper than they did a year ago. [Read more 🡒]

Wendell Pierce Just Shared A Saints Take Fans Need To Hear

Wendell Pierce has been making the rounds for his role in the boxing drama They Fight, which arrives on Hulu on July 17, but the New Orleans native also used the spotlight to look back on the people who shaped him long before Hollywood did. He pointed to youth coach Mac McBurnett Knox Jr. of Pontchartrain Park as a formative influence, saying the lessons went well beyond football and helped instill the kind of discipline and perspective that still travels with him today.

Pierce also made it clear where his football heart remains, offering support for the Saints and a sense of optimism about what comes next after the Drew Brees era. His view is rooted in the idea that the next wave has a chance to define the franchises identity, and for a fan base still measuring every season against the old standard, that kind of belief carries some weight. Saints Backfield Debate Reaches A Turning Point Fans Feared

Alvin Kamaras future in New Orleans has been one of the more closely watched Saints storylines of the offseason, and the picture finally appears to be coming into focus. After months of uncertainty around how the veteran running back fit into the teams plans, the Saints and Kamara have been working toward a resolution while general manager Mickey Loomis has continued to frame the discussion around roster fit and how the club wants to manage its resources.

Kamara has made it clear he wants to stay with the Saints, even after the offseason brought fresh questions about his role and the team added Travis Etienne. There had been some trade chatter along the way, but the latest momentum points in a different direction, with New Orleans now trying to settle the backfield picture and keep one of its most recognizable offensive pieces in place.
