Tyler Shough Just Sent A Strong Message About Saints Wideouts

Saints quarterback Tyler Shough reveals why Chris Olave and Jordyn Tyson are key to the team's offensive success.

Tyler Shough didn’t hold back when talking about the Saints’ receiving options on Chris Long’s podcast, “The Green Light.” After spending offseason workouts with Chris Olave and Jordyn Tyson, the quarterback came away sounding genuinely fired up about what those two can bring.

Olave, in Shough’s eyes, is the kind of receiver who gives a quarterback everything at once. He described him as a rare blend of speed and feel, the sort of target who can win on option routes, overs, sails and basic concepts, but still has the juice to threaten defenses deep.

“Yeah, I mean, he's (Olave) special because, you know, you have in theory speed guys, or kind of like finesse or feel guys, and I think he's, like, kind of the perfect combination of both, where you can run option routes or overs or sails, um, or basics with him, but that he also is gonna run a go ball or a double move because he has that 4-3 speed.

That's pretty hard to, pretty hard to get as far as when you can kind of run these shorter intermediate routes and have the understanding to, to settle here in this zone, you know, unlike a, maybe like a true 6'5" X. Which is obviously valuable in its own right, but- Yep ... I think he's got that interchangeability, and then you add in a guy like Jordan Tyson who's kind of a carbon copy of him when it comes to that feel with these underneath routes, but also big play ability.

I think it's gonna be pretty, pretty unique. Dude, when Jordan Tyson got drafted, I was happy for the guy.

I didn't know the guy at all. I was happy for the guy.

The damn reaction is one of the main things I remember- Yeah ... from draft night. You see him on TV and see that it means that much to him.”

Shough said Tyson immediately stood out to him as well, calling him a “hooper” who can create separation and make the kind of catches that end up on highlight reels.

He also pointed to Tyson’s path to this point, noting the injuries both players have dealt with. Shough said he and Tyson have both broken collarbones, while Tyson has also dealt with a knee injury and a hamstring issue late in the year.

“I've had some, had some connections at Arizona State who had said great things about him, and- Yeah, his journey. He'd been injured quite a few times.

You know, we've both broken collarbones. He's had a knee.

You know, he was battling kind of a hammy there at the end of the year.

That was kind of the story with me coming out of the draft, was I had some injuries in the past, and I was like, "Man, screw this, I'm just gonna go out there and be myself." And I feel like that's the best part about him, getting to know him, is that, um, he's just one of one person and, you know, obviously kind of getting to work with him in camp as we kind of continue to go forward is, is gonna be even more exciting.”

Kellen Moore Might Finally Get The Saints Weapon They've Been Missing

A hypothetical draft board can change the way a teams future looks in a hurry, and this one gives the Saints a chance to imagine a very different kind of offense. In the seven-round scenario, New Orleans lands Jordan Love early and then circles back for Malik Nabers, a receiver whose burst and route-running would fit neatly into the kind of passing game Kellen Moore has tried to build around playmakers who can win after the catch.

The appeal is obvious because Nabers already looked like a difference-maker as a rookie, and the comparison to CeeDee Lamb only sharpens the picture of what Moore might be able to shape in New Orleans. The lingering question is whether the board would ever break that cleanly for the Saints, because in this setup Nabers is still there late enough to become the kind of value pick that can tilt a draft and give Moore the weapon this offense has been missing. Former Saints Champion Just Resurfaced In Deion Sanders' Staff Shakeup

Deion Sanders has kept the Colorado staff in motion, and the latest additions bring in two former NFL players with a familiar connection to his new defensive coordinator. Pierson Prioleau and Xavier Adibi have been hired as defensive quality control analysts, giving the Buffaloes more experience on the defensive side after a recent run of turnover on the sideline.

For Saints fans, Prioleaus name still carries some weight from his days as a New Orleans champion, and now he is resurfacing in a different role under Sanders. Both hires worked with new defensive coordinator Chris Marve at Virginia Tech, which gives Colorado some continuity as it tries to settle the staff after the departures of Marshall Faulk and Warren Sapp. [Read more 🡒]
