Terron Armstead isn’t back in the league, but Tyler Shough apparently has him thinking about it.
The five-time Pro Bowler, who spent his career at left tackle before stepping away, said the Saints quarterback has impressed him so much that he seriously wondered what it would take to suit up again. Armstead made the comments during a sit-down on NFL on CBS for CBS Sports HQ, and he didn’t hold back on how strongly he feels about Shough.
"I am such a Tyler Shough fan," Armstead grinned. "I'm such a Tyler Shough guy.
Like, he is everything you want from a franchise guy. He is the leader that you want.
His accountability is through the roof. His willingness to compete, his desire to win, his -- desire to not lose.
I'm telling you. There's no bigger fan, in sports, than me with Tyler Shough."
Armstead said his opinion really took off after Shough appeared on his The Set with T. Stead YouTube show. What started as an hour-long on-camera conversation turned into four more hours of talking football and getting acquainted, and that exchange left Armstead with the first real urge he’d had in years to consider a return.
"Tyler Shough made me think about going and getting an injection in this knee, first, and then coming back to play ball, to protect this man."
At 35 and two years removed from his last NFL game, Armstead has been building a second act as a media commentator and pro football analyst. Still, when Shough delivers a performance like the one he had in Sunday’s road upset over the Baltimore Ravens, Armstead said it’s hard not to imagine he might still have something left to give.
