The New Orleans Saints have had a productive free agency period, but as the NFL Draft approaches, they still have some key areas to address. While the defense hasn’t seen much action in terms of free-agent signings, it remains a priority.
However, the offense also needs attention, particularly at wide receiver (WR), offensive guard (OG), tight end (TE), and potentially running back (RB). The Saints are diligently working through the pre-draft process, especially for WR and TE positions.
Wide Receiver (WR)
The 2026 NFL Draft boasts a deep WR class, with the real strength lying in its depth. Top prospects like Carnell Tate, Makai Lemon, and Jordyn Tyson headline the group, but given the depth, the Saints might opt for other players available in later rounds. Notably, they have a top-30 visit scheduled with Lemon.
If the Saints choose to wait until Day 2 or even Day 3 to select a WR, they’ll need to identify their preferred targets. So far, they’ve been actively meeting with more WR prospects than any other position.
Names on their radar include Ted Hurst (Day 2), Reggie Virgil (Day 3), Raja Nelson (Day 3), and Lemon. It’s likely this list will grow as the draft approaches.
Tight End (TE)
While WR prospects have been in the spotlight for some time, TE names are now emerging in connection with the Saints. Despite having Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant as starters, both players’ contracts expire in 2028, prompting the team to consider future options.
Selecting a TE at pick 8 seems unlikely, so Day 2 or 3 is when the Saints might make their move. They’ve shown genuine interest in two TEs so far. Oscar Delp’s stock is rising, suggesting he might need to be picked at 42, while Dallen Bentley, initially projected as a Day 3 pick, could climb into the 3rd round due to increased interest.
The Saints’ strategic approach to the draft, focusing on both immediate needs and future planning, demonstrates their commitment to building a well-rounded roster. As they continue to evaluate talent, fans can expect a dynamic draft strategy aimed at strengthening both sides of the ball.
