As the first week of NFL free agency wraps up, the New Orleans Saints find themselves in an enviable position. They've locked in their franchise quarterback, Tyler Shough, and addressed several key roster needs.
The additions of left guard David Edwards and running back Travis Etienne Jr. have been pivotal, plugging major gaps for the team. With tight end Noah Fant and linebacker Kaden Ellis also on board, the Saints have set a solid foundation for the upcoming season.
However, there's still one glaring need: wide receiver. The Saints hold the 8th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and it's looking like the perfect opportunity to bolster their receiving corps. As Larry Holder from The Athletic points out, the Saints could target one of three standout wide receiver prospects: Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson, or Makai Lemon.
By signing Etienne, the Saints have removed running back from their early draft priorities, opening the door for these receiver options. Each of these players brings a unique skill set to the table, and if the draft board aligns favorably, the Saints could have their pick.
Carnell Tate is a name that's been frequently linked to the Saints in mock drafts. Last season, he racked up 875 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 51 receptions for Ohio State. He's a top prospect and could very well be available when the Saints are on the clock.
If Tate isn't available, the Saints could turn their attention to Makai Lemon or Jordyn Tyson. Lemon had an impressive season with USC, posting 1,156 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on 79 receptions. Meanwhile, Tyson showed his potential at Arizona State, with 711 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 61 receptions, despite playing fewer games.
With the 8th overall pick, the Saints are in a prime position to address their wide receiver need. Given the depth of talent in this year's draft, it's likely that one of these promising receivers will be available. This pick could be the key to solidifying the Saints' offense, providing a dynamic partner alongside Chris Olave and giving the team the firepower they need to compete at the highest level.
