The New Orleans Saints could be on the verge of adding a key piece to their offense, and it's one that might immediately boost their red-zone efficiency. With an eye on both the present and the future, the Saints are reportedly a potential landing spot for wide receiver Jauan Jennings - a physical, tough-as-nails playmaker who carved out a niche for himself in San Francisco.
Jennings may not have the flash of a No. 1 wideout, but he's the kind of gritty, dependable target who thrives in tight spaces - and more importantly, in the end zone. Despite a relatively modest WR Impact Score (71.1), Jennings found the end zone nine times in limited action. That kind of production, especially in high-leverage moments, is exactly what the Saints could use alongside Chris Olave.
Olave has established himself as the go-to guy in New Orleans, but the Saints have been missing a consistent No. 2 option who can take pressure off their top target and give defenses something else to think about. Jennings fits that mold.
He’s not going to stretch the field like a burner, but he brings physicality, route savvy, and a knack for making contested catches - especially in the red zone. For a young quarterback like Tyler Shough, who showed poise and promise in his rookie season, having another reliable weapon could be a difference-maker.
Shough did well with what he had in 2025, managing the offense effectively and showing flashes of what he could become with the right supporting cast. Adding even a mid-tier veteran like Jennings raises the floor of the receiving corps and gives Shough a better chance to grow in year two. And while Saints fans may still be hoping for a true WR1-type talent - likely through the draft - a move like this would be a smart step toward building a more complete offense.
Of course, the Saints also have to keep one eye on the future. Veterans like Alvin Kamara and Cameron Jordan are still capable of high-level play - Jordan in particular had a bounce-back year in 2025 - but age is an undeniable factor. The team will need to start thinking about succession plans, and moves like adding Jennings are part of that process: surrounding young talent with the right veterans to ease the transition.
Meanwhile, another familiar name could be on the move this offseason - and Saints fans will recognize him. Trey Hendrickson, the former New Orleans pass rusher who blossomed into a Pro Bowl force in Cincinnati, is being projected to land with the Dallas Cowboys.
Dallas, already bolstering their defensive front with Quinnen Williams, could double down by adding Hendrickson to the edge. Even in a down year statistically (just four sacks), Hendrickson still posted an elite EDGE Impact score of 86.4, ranking 12th league-wide. That kind of consistency and disruption is exactly what Dallas needs to balance out their defense.
Hendrickson made four straight Pro Bowls with the Bengals and had back-to-back seasons with 17+ sacks earlier in his career. While he may not be at that peak anymore, he's still a major asset - and someone the Saints will want to keep tabs on, whether it’s for a potential reunion or simply to monitor a key player from their recent past.
Free agency is still a few weeks away, but the early projections are already painting a picture of how teams like the Saints and Cowboys could reshape their rosters. If New Orleans does land Jennings, it won’t be the splashiest move of the offseason - but it might be one of the more quietly effective ones.
