Just 61 days remain before the New Orleans Saints open the 2026 regular season with a road trip to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Sept. 13, and one of the newest faces in camp is already tied to that countdown. Keeshawn Silver, a defensive tackle who wears No. 61, is the Saints Player of the Day as the team gets closer to training camp.
Silver arrives as an undrafted rookie and one of multiple offseason additions New Orleans has made along the defensive line. He’s got a real preseason climb ahead of him, but for now he’s the latest player in the spotlight.

Silver was a five-star recruit at Rocky Mount High School and originally stayed close to home, picking North Carolina over several other offers. His time with the Tar Heels never really took off, though, as he saw only limited action across two seasons and played in just six games before transferring to Kentucky in 2023.
That move gave him a much bigger role. Over the next two seasons, Silver appeared in 24 of a possible 25 games for the Wildcats and finished with 43 total tackles, including 1 sack and 3 tackles for loss. After the 2024 season, he hit the transfer portal again and landed at USC.
Last season with the Trojans, Silver played in all 13 games and posted 20 tackles, 2 for loss, and 1 sack.
The appeal is obvious on paper. Silver has the size, power, wingspan and agility teams look for in an interior lineman, and he’s shown he can line up in different spots across the defensive front. The issue has been turning those traits into consistent production, and he still needs better leverage and technique to make that happen.
That’s the hurdle in front of him now, especially with fellow undrafted rookies Zxavian Harris and Jay’Viar Suggs also fighting for a role. Still, New Orleans is clearly looking for more power and output up front, which gives Silver a legitimate opening if he can put together a strong preseason.

Kool-Aid McKinstry is entering the kind of season that can change the way a defense is viewed, and for the Saints, the timing could hardly be better. The 2024 second-round pick has already logged two seasons of uneven work in pass coverage, but his experience, draft pedigree and steady increase in responsibility have put him squarely in the conversation as a possible breakout player for 2026.
New Orleans has also cleared the runway for him to take on a much larger role at cornerback, which only raises the pressure on a player the team has been waiting to see grow into the job.
