When the Saints spent the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Jordyn Tyson, they weren’t just adding another receiver to the room. They were making a statement about what this offense is going to look like under Kellen Moore.
Tyson’s fit is obvious on paper and already showing up on the field. His quickness in and out of breaks, his feel for space, and what he can do after the catch give New Orleans a different kind of weapon opposite Chris Olave, who now has a new extension contract. For second-year quarterback Tyler Shough, that means a pair of receivers who can stress defenses in different ways and give him real answers in key spots.
After easing him through OTAs and mandatory minicamp because of a lingering college hamstring tweak, the Saints finally started opening things up in early training camp. On Day 2, Thursday, July 30, Tyson gave everyone a fresh reminder of why the team was so eager to make him a top-10 pick.
The highlight came in the red zone. During 7-on-7 and team drills, Tyson lined up in the slot against defensive back Jonas Sanker, snapped off an outside break toward the front pylon, and separated fast enough to make himself an easy target. Shough stood in against pressure and fired a clean throw right to Tyson for the receiver’s first touchdown of training camp.
Tyson also showed the kind of burst that can turn routine touches into real gains. On a swing pass to the right side, he caught the ball in stride and immediately accelerated upfield for a chunk play, flashing the run-after-catch ability that made him so dangerous in college.
Not every rep was clean, though, and that mattered too. Later in red-zone work, Shough looked Tyson’s way again, but the two weren’t on the same page. Tyson broke inside while Shough threw outside, and Quincy Riley stepped in with a diving interception at the goal line.
That’s the early camp story with Tyson: the traits are already loud, but the details still need work. The separation is there.
The red-zone chemistry is showing up. Now it’s about sharpening the timing with Shough inside Moore’s system.
