Chanen Johnson is standing up for her family after a racist comment targeted her and Juwan Johnson’s young daughters.
The New Orleans Saints tight end’s wife shared a video on Instagram on Aug. 17 showing the couple’s two daughters with Juwan on the field before the Saints’ preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 15 at Caesars Superdome. In her caption, Chanen wrote, "They have never looked at me like that before🙃🫠," and added in the overlay, "My kids on game day acting like they’ve never seen their father before."
According to Chanen, one commenter fixated on the girls’ skin tone and wrote, "Would have been awesome to see beautiful melanin rich children that looked like him."
Chanen later responded on her Instagram Story and made clear she wasn’t going to meet ugliness with more of the same. "Taking a moment to say that there’s nothing new under the sun here, sadly," Chanen wrote. "However, I will always utilize this platform to display the character & nature of Christ as much as I possibly can."
She also urged her followers not to lash out. "I hope situations like this encourages us to pray for these people.
That the Lord reveals Himself to them in a mighty way," she added. "Please, if you ever see the evils of this world on display in my comments, use it as an opportunity to meet them in that place w/ love & cover them in prayer."
Juwan Johnson and Chanen were married on Feb. 15, 2020, and their daughters are both under five years old.
Just days earlier, Chanen had posted a very different message about her husband. On Aug. 13, she shared a tribute on Instagram that praised Juwan’s family-first approach, alongside a video of him spending time with their girls.
"Rich in life because my husband is an ‘I worked all week, I can’t wait to spend time with you & the kids’ not an ‘I worked all week I need a break’ type of man," she wrote over the clip. In the caption, she simply added, "Thank you Jesus."
