The New Orleans Saints and New York Giants meet in Week 6 of the 2026 regular season, and one of the biggest questions hanging over this matchup is how much the Giants will lean on J.J. McCarthy going forward.
Ed Valentine of Big Blue View said McCarthy has already gotten his chance, thanks to a “McCarthy Package” the Giants used for the first time last Sunday against the Commanders. He expects that wrinkle to stick around.
As for whether Jameis Winston keeps the starting job the rest of the way, Valentine wouldn’t lock it in. The Giants like Winston, and the locker room has bought in, but he made it clear that John Harbaugh won’t just stand pat if the offense starts to wobble.
For now, though, Winston is playing well enough and the Giants are winning enough that no change appears imminent.
Sunday’s injury picture could also shape the game. Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns are already out for the year, while right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor and edge rusher Abdul Carter, both dealing with calf injuries, could miss the Saints game. Valentine pointed to Carter as the biggest name to watch there, calling him the Giants’ best defender and pass rusher.
If New York could steal one Saints player for its own roster, Valentine didn’t hesitate: Chris Olave. His reasoning was simple - pairing Olave with Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely would give the Giants a receiver group capable of stacking up with anyone. He also said the Giants need more explosive plays, and another star wideout would help create them.
For Saints fans looking at a Giants player who might fly under the national radar, Valentine pointed to tight end Isaiah Likely. He said the passing game is running through him more than many people realize, noting that he has emerged from being a Baltimore Ravens backup into a player who is becoming a star. Valentine cited Likely’s place among league tight ends: second in receptions with 33, second in target share, and fourth in receiving yards.
As for how Sunday might go, Valentine said he picked the Giants in his weekly predictions because they keep finding ways to survive their mistakes and Harbaugh has them believing they’ve earned the right to win. Even so, he warned that losing Carter would be a major blow. Without him, Valentine said, New York’s defense would not be the same.

Saints Suddenly Face A Crisis Bigger Than Just One Bad Loss
The Saints latest rough patch has turned into something more than a single ugly Sunday. Three straight home losses, first to the Raiders, then the Falcons, then the Vikings, have left the building unusually tense, and the pattern has looked familiar in all the wrong ways: slow starts, turnovers, penalties and a defense that has spent too much time chasing games instead of controlling them.
Gayle Benson made clear after the Falcons loss that this is not the standard New Orleans is supposed to meet, and the frustration has only deepened as the problems have piled up. Even in the Minnesota game, there were stretches where the Saints needed defensive help just to stay in it, which only underscored how fragile things have become as the season has moved along. Gayle Benson Just Raised The Stakes For Everyone In New Orleans
A rough opening month has put the Saints in an uncomfortable spotlight, and owner Gayle Benson did not try to soften it. She publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the 1-4 start to the 2026 season and made it clear that the standard in New Orleans has not been met, putting players, coaches and staff alike on notice as the organization tries to steady itself.
The timing only adds to the pressure, with the Giants up next as the Saints keep chasing their second win. After the latest setback, the conversation around the team has shifted from sorting out early-season issues to whether enough can change quickly enough to keep the season from slipping further away. Michael Penix Jr Just Sent Falcons Fans An Encouraging Signal
Michael Penix Jr. gave Falcons fans a much-needed update this week by getting back on the practice field after a ribs injury and saying he feels ready to play in Week 6. For a division rival like New Orleans, that matters because the Saints are already trying to steady themselves in a shaky NFC South, and any sign that Atlanta might have its quarterback available changes the feel of the matchup immediately.
Around the division, the pressure keeps building in other places too, including in New Orleans, where owner Gayle Benson publicly said she was disappointed with the teams 1-4 start. She pointed to the need for better preparation, execution and accountability, a pointed message that reflects just how quickly a slow opening has put the Saints on edge as they try to reset their season.
