Saints Face Long Super Bowl Odds, but History Offers a Glimmer of Hope
The New Orleans Saints are staring down some steep odds heading into the 2026 NFL season. Caesars Sportsbook currently lists them at 110-1 to win Super Bowl 61 - a long shot by any measure. But if this past season taught us anything, it’s that the NFL doesn’t always follow the script.
Just take a look at Super Bowl 60. The Seattle Seahawks entered the year with 60-1 odds.
Their opponent, the New England Patriots, were even further down the board at 100-1. And yet, both teams found a way to navigate the chaos of a full NFL season, punch their tickets to the big game, and defy every preseason projection along the way.
In that context, the Saints’ current odds don’t seem quite as daunting. Sure, 110-1 is a long climb - but it’s not impossible.
We’ve seen teams rise from the depths of the odds board before. The blueprint is out there.
Saints in the NFC South Mix
While a Super Bowl run may feel like a stretch right now, the Saints are very much in the hunt for the NFC South crown. DraftKings has them at +350 to win the division, trailing only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who lead the pack at +120. Behind New Orleans are the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons, both of whom have their own questions to answer this offseason.
The division itself is wide open. No team in the NFC South has firmly established itself as a powerhouse, and that leaves the door cracked open for a team like New Orleans to make a move - especially if they can stay healthy and find some consistency at quarterback.
Speaking of quarterbacks, Tyler Shough enters the offseason as a bit of a wildcard. FanDuel lists him at 100-1 to win league MVP.
That’s not exactly a vote of confidence, but it does reflect the uncertainty around his potential. If Shough can take a leap - or even just provide steady play under center - it could shift the Saints’ trajectory in a big way.
A Hall of Fame Boost from Brees
There was a moment of celebration for Saints fans this past week, as Drew Brees was officially elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His enshrinement comes just days after the 16th anniversary of the Saints’ iconic Super Bowl 44 win over the Indianapolis Colts - a game forever remembered for Sean Payton’s gutsy “Ambush” onside kick and Brees’ MVP performance.
That era may feel like a distant memory, but Brees’ induction serves as a reminder of what’s possible when the right pieces come together. His legacy still looms large in New Orleans, and his Hall of Fame nod adds a bit of optimism to a fan base eager for a new chapter of success.
What’s Next
The NFL Draft is just around the corner, set for the end of April. That will be the next big opportunity for the Saints to reshape their roster and fill key holes. From there, it’s on to organized team activities and the slow buildup toward training camp.
There’s no sugarcoating it - the Saints have work to do. But in a league where underdogs regularly crash the party, there’s always a chance.
Just ask the Seahawks. Just ask the Patriots.
And maybe, just maybe, come next February, someone will be asking the Saints.
