NFL Star's Wife Slams Goodell's Paris Decision

As France faces turbulent unrest, T.J. Watts wife raises concerns over the NFL's decision to press on with the Steelers-Saints game in Paris.

T.J. Watt’s wife, Dani, made her feelings clear as the NFL pressed ahead with plans for the Steelers-Saints game in Paris despite the unrest in France.

On Monday, Watt posted on her Instagram story with a CBS Pittsburgh headline that read, “The NFL says it is continuing forward with plans for the upcoming Steelers-Saints game amid unrest in Paris.” She added her own reaction, writing:

“Tell me how this makes sense???”

The league’s decision has already drawn pushback from fans and public figures, and the concern comes after France saw major riots over the weekend. More than 550,000 people took to the streets to protest the high cost of living and low-quality public services. According to CNBC, about 2,400 people were arrested, dozens of shops were damaged or looted, and more than 1,000 police officers were injured.

Despite that backdrop, the NFL said it was staying the course. On Sunday, ESPN analyst Adam Schefter shared the league’s statement on X, which said:

“We continue to work closely with local authorities and partners on all operational and security matters. We are also providing the two clubs with regular updates. There’s been no disruption or impact at league sites.”

The Saints arrived in Paris on Monday ahead of the Week 7 matchup, and Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy also criticized the NFL’s choice to keep the game on the schedule.

Not everyone around the matchup sees it the same way, though. Saints executive Greg Bensel backed the league’s position in a statement also shared by Schefter on Sunday:

“We concur with the NFL’s statement and are planning to play the game. In addition to working closely with the NFL, we have also maintained daily security updates with our security partners in France. Members of our football operations staff and internal security team have been on the ground in France for the past few days, and there has been no disruption or impact at any of our team sites.”

The Steelers enter the game at 4-2 after beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6. The Saints are 2-4 after their win over the New York Giants.

Saints Paris Matchup Just Got A New Wrinkle Before Kickoff

The Steelers trip to Paris hit a rough patch before they ever got to kickoff, with the team canceling its official fan watch party because of civil unrest and street protests in the city. The backdrop around this international showcase has gotten messy in a hurry, even as the regular-season matchup with the Saints at the Stade de France is still on track to be played as scheduled.

Pittsburgh also had its Friday morning practice wiped out by Storm Austen, which brought high winds and rain that made the stadium session a no-go. The adjustment leaves the Steelers working around the elements and the schedule rather than settling into a normal game-week routine, and for New Orleans it adds one more unusual wrinkle to a trip that was already going to feel anything but routine. Saints Kicking Situation Is Putting Kellen Moore In A Tough Spot

Daniel Carlsons latest game offered a brief reprieve in a kicking picture that has been shaky for most of the season. After missing multiple field goals and extra points in most games this year, he returned from missing the first two days of practice for personal reasons and then drilled two kicks from beyond 50 yards, giving the Saints at least some reason to stick with him for the moment.

Still, the spot remains unsettled because the early-season inconsistency has not disappeared from the conversation. New Orleans has not made a change yet, but the longer the misses linger, the more pressure falls on Kellen Moore to decide how long he can afford to wait before the kicking issue forces his hand. Saints Defense Could Get A Needed Boost Before Steelers Showdown

The Saints got a little healthier on defense this week as Kaden Elliss returned to limited practice after missing the past three games with a calf injury. His availability matters in a matchup like this, especially with Pittsburgh looming and New Orleans still trying to sort through a roster that has been hit by injuries on both sides of the ball.

Tyler Shough, Nathan Shepherd and Kool-Aid McKinstry were full participants despite their recent issues, which at least gives the Saints some encouraging signs heading into the week. But the injury report was not clean, either, with Alvin Kamara among the players limited and Cesar Ruiz dealing with a knee problem, leaving New Orleans with a few more questions to answer before Sunday.
