Kellen Moore Addresses Growing Pressure Around Saints' Brutal Start

Saints coach Kellen Moore addresses owner Gayle Benson's public criticism, highlighting the team's determination to improve despite a challenging start to the season.

Kellen Moore isn’t bristling at Gayle Benson’s public message. He’s treating it like part of the job.

With the Saints sitting at 1-4, the New Orleans owner used an eight-minute speech Tuesday at the GNO quarterback club to call the start “unacceptable” and push the team to sharpen up, clean up mistakes and turn things around. Moore said he has not met with Benson to go over the slow start, but he made clear he had no issue with her saying it out loud.

“Mrs. B’s great," Moore said.

"She, like all of us, wants better results. That’s how this business is.

We’ve got great guys in this building doing what they can to find a formula. All we can control is moving forward, as far as playing better, coaching better, giving ourselves better opportunities.

"I think our guys have the right mindset. Again, it’s the NFL, there’s ups and there’s downs, it’s about navigating those and getting better moving forward.”

Moore also pushed back on the idea that Benson’s comments changed the temperature inside the building. He said he didn’t take them as an ultimatum and didn’t feel they added another layer of urgency.

"It’s where we’re at," Moore said. "We’re 1-4, missed a few opportunities right there.

Again, we all want the same thing. We’re all shooting for that, we’ve all got the same objectives, we’ve just got to get better moving forward.”

As for a sit-down with Benson, Moore said they cross paths “a few times” during the week, though they haven’t had a meeting about the points she raised.

He said the outside noise around his own job status doesn’t register either.

"There’s the task at hand and we’re focused on that," Moore said. "I can’t worry about any of that other stuff.

This is the NFL, we’ve all been through plenty of seasons, there’s highs, there’s lows, obviously there’s emotions related to it. But you’ve just got to focus on the task at hand.

Seasons take plenty of different courses.”

Saints Pressure Is Rising Fast After Public Message To Kellen Moore

The early weeks of the 2026 season have already put the Saints in a difficult spot, and the frustration around the team has moved well beyond the building. New Orleans is 1-4, and team owner Gayle Benson made her dissatisfaction with the level of play clear in public, a notable signal of how quickly the mood has turned around a club that expected more stability under Kellen Moore.

Moore responded by stressing the organizations commitment to improvement, but the on-field results have not given the Saints much breathing room. With losses piling up and the schedule bringing the New York Giants next, New Orleans suddenly finds itself trying to steady both its play and its confidence before the pressure gets any heavier. Kellen Moore Is Feeling Real Saints Pressure After Gayle Benson Speaks

Kellen Moore is feeling the kind of early-season heat that comes with coaching in New Orleans, where expectations rarely wait for the calendar to catch up. After the Saints stumbled to a 1-4 start in 2026, Moore was asked about team performance and about owner Gayle Bensons recent comments pushing for results, a message that landed even harder after the clubs strong finish to last year.

Moore said he and Benson share the same goal of getting the team moving in the right direction, but he did not frame the conversation as one that requires a wholesale change in how the Saints are going about things. The pressure is real because the record is real, and while the season is still young, the patience around a slow start in New Orleans is usually thinner than the margin for error. [Read more 🡒]

Saints Enter New York With Pressure Suddenly Cranked Up

The Saints walked into their New York trip with the kind of noise that comes when an early-season slump starts to feel heavier by the day. Kellen Moore acknowledged owner Gayle Bensons dissatisfaction with how the team has performed, and her public message made the mood plain after a 1-4 start that has fallen short of expectations in New Orleans.

Moore kept the focus on the next step rather than the temperature around his own job, stressing improvement and the need to keep moving forward. The challenge now is obvious for a team trying to steady itself quickly, because the frustration from the top has already been voiced and the margin for an encouraging response is shrinking.
