Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are navigating some significant changes this offseason. Head Coach Todd Bowles opened up about the impact of losing two key figures: veteran wide receiver Mike Evans, who has joined the 49ers, and longtime linebacker Lavonte David, who has retired after a stellar career with the team.
Bowles didn't mince words about Evans' departure. "Oh man, that was tough," he shared on Good Morning Football.
"He’s the best of the best on and off the field. We know how great he was, and it’s hard to see him leave both sentimentally and professionally.
But we’ve got a lot of guys ready to step up-Emeka, Godwin returning healthy, Jalen McMillan, and Tez Johnson after a full season. We feel confident in those guys, but make no mistake, we’ll miss Mike’s presence."
On Lavonte David, Bowles was equally heartfelt. "Personally, this one really stung me," he said.
"It’s gonna sting from an attitude standpoint. He was the guy who got everyone going, both in practice and in games.
He was the cream of the crop for 14 years. He was like a brother to me."
The Buccaneers are exploring options to fill these gaps, hosting former Falcons linebacker DeAngelo Malone for a visit. While no signing is imminent, Malone could be a valuable addition, especially on special teams.
Falcons
In Atlanta, the Falcons are carefully managing quarterback Michael Penix Jr.'s recovery timeline. Head Coach Kevin Stefanski emphasized patience, saying, "We’re not going to rush him, and he’s not going to rush himself." While there's no definitive answer on Penix’s Week 1 availability, Stefanski remains optimistic, noting, "We want to see how he looks in a week, how he looks in a month."
Stefanski also expressed enthusiasm about new running back Brian Robinson Jr., whose skillset complements fellow RB Bijan Robinson. The team is also focused on getting right tackle Kaleb McGary healthy for training camp.
Regarding outside linebacker James Pearce Jr., Stefanski was tight-lipped about his status for April 7th, stating, "We’re working through everything."
In organizational news, the Falcons have appointed Steven Drummond as their Senior Vice President of Communications. Additionally, Iowa kicker Drew Stevens had a formal Combine interview with the team, indicating they’re exploring options in special teams.
Saints
Over in New Orleans, Saints Head Coach Kellen Moore discussed ongoing conversations with wide receiver Chris Olave, though he kept details under wraps, expressing excitement for Olave’s future.
Moore had high praise for running back Audric Estime, who made a significant impact mid-season. "Credit to Audric," Moore said.
"He came in and played at a high level quickly. His preparation was excellent, and now we have depth in the running back room because of it.
I’m fired up for him."
The Saints are clearly optimistic about their roster's potential, with Moore highlighting the depth and talent they’ve cultivated, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
